Re: Fast Food Thread: Not just about assholes anymore
What? My kids LOVED sopapillas when they were younger. They would always ask my mom to make them when we'd visit...and then they'd eat so many they didn't want anything else for dinner. Ya I don't understand it, but my wife is very anti-making kids try things (it was a huge thing in her household) ...

Re: Fast Food Thread: Not just about assholes anymore
I need to check out Pericio’s. I know have a strong craving for a sopapilla... My kids wouldn't try them (I didn't really push them either.) Also, hit up El Patio by UNM. The SAME lady making the chile when I worked there in the 90s is still hard at work!. God, I wish there were New Mexican places ...

Stopped at Giff's namesake burger joint in ABQ last week, still excellent. The boy (who basically survives on hamburgers) placed it 3rd in his hierarchy.
Also, Pericio's (small New Mexican chain) still slaps. Carne Adovada and rellenos from the heavens.

Pour a cup of baking soda down the drain, wait like 10-15 minutes. Follow with 1/2 cup of vinegar, watch bubbles. Rinse with hot water.

If you're looking for something funny with short episodes "The Completely Made Up Adventures of Dick Turpin" on Apple has been pretty good. Reminds a little of Our Flag Means Death. I read somewhere it's the "spiritual successor" to OFMD. And Noel Fielding is my most famous &quo...

Actually surprised they hired you with a Masters and your experience in education settings. I taught for 5 years before I went to library school, and I think they wanted library help. As I said the librarian was a 2nd-grade teacher before September and the person there before was useless. The libra...

Good for you, bud! Thanks my guy. Enjoy the current gig, sort of mentor to my boss. She's going through the cert process now (used to teach 2nd grade until this year) and she's helping to get into the swing of non-academic librarianship. Plus, she's got intel on jobs coming up so I can get a leg up.

As y'all know I left CU last Fall because of politics, and decided to get back into teaching, well a teacher librarian. The Colorado DoE is not very helpful and has a convoluted website. They told me that I'd need to go back to school and get 24 credits (within two years) on top of the Masters and a...

your school blocks espn's website???? Yes, the outside IT guy is a knob. We're K-8 with kids having their own computers they're supposed to be working on classwork throughout the day, so everything non-academic and known is blocked. The staff gets everything blocked as well. We can get our Gmail (w...

I really enjoyed the last two I read. Finished them both in a 4-day span because no way my library is getting an extra dime. Toronto libraries have done away with overdue fines. Kind of odd. Many libraries have actually. They may still have a lost item charge, but dealing with fines costs much more...

I saw one a few weeks back of parents teaching their kid how to shoot from 1 to 4. By 4 the kid was hitting the upper corner of the goal off his first touch.

I think it's great that Rush was like..."I know the perfect place for this story! So wild that thread just got started!" My school blocks like 98% of the Internet so I can't follow many links, and I've taken to glossing over many WLU posts... I forwarded that to Max and he was like "...

Jae (my mom's partner) is still wickedly into sledding/the Iditarod and Yukon Quest (the quest is smaller field, but a harder race) and has met a whole bunch of the modern "classic" mushers. I haven't really been that into it since I was a teen, but listen to her stories and I do have a sw...

How I have I been here for 19 years and this is the first time I'm hearing this? That's awesome! My parents had a Samoyed when I was born that lived up to the "babysitter dog" reputation and briefly had a Siberian Husky when I was 3, so I have a deep love of the breeds. We had a couple of...

We had a dog sled team when I was a kid. Recreational at most (we only had 10 dogs max) though I did the kid and mutt at the Alpo races when they were in Lake Placid.
