In a crime and punishment sense, too. It also seems to stress the importance of at least some level of international standards.

Re: Random Thoughts About Thoughts Random
So, a couple weeks ago, my company's Board of Directors approved a tender offer to be acquired. I've dodged a couple bullets over the years, but I've always stayed employed. Now, barring a big surprise, I'm going to be out of a job, for the first time since the year after I graduated college (well over half my life ago). I'm in line for a nice severance package that will tide me over until I find a new gig, so I'm not too concerned about it. But, it sure feels weird.

I need to stop underestimating how shitty eating a full-size box of Mike and Ikes will make me feel.

My friend's four year old has started making deez nuts jokes. Being the youngest of four has prematurely matured him.rass wrote:Ooooh, I haven't had Hot Tamales in years.

It's my go-to munchie food if I want sweets. But I have to put them really far back in the pantry after a handful because I would eat the entire box easy. Addictive.rass wrote:Ooooh, I haven't had Hot Tamales in years.

My brain surgery was a year ago today. Not much to say about it really, it's just probably a date that'll be hard to forget going forward. It's also the day before my anniversary so that helps.

A couple weekends from now I'll be in the production for Rocky Horror Picture Show on base. I'll be Rocky on Friday and Eddie on Saturday. Everyone of my friends I've told has been ridiculously excited about it -- especially the girls. Who knew women like to go to midnight showings of cult classic films dressed like whores?!?!?

For the Canadian Swampers: What is the deal with the above ground-pools? I was up there a week ago and noticed on the trip that like 80% of homes have them, even if they take up the majority of the yard space. Is this a Quebec-specific thing, or nationwide?

Must be a Quebec thing. Others have noticed... http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/nat ... le4432113/Johnny Carwash wrote:For the Canadian Swampers: What is the deal with the above ground-pools? Canada's regions are distinct from one another, but Quebec is (obviously and clearly) the most distinct of all. In August as I drove through the eastern part of la belle province, I noticed more of those bus like rvs - this sort of thing - than I ever knew existed:Statistics support what the eye reveals. Quebec has well over 300,000 backyard pools, more than Ontario (which has five million more people), and more than almost anywhere else in North America on a per-capita basis....
“A [now-defunct] company named Citadel started advertising on a grand scale in the 1990s, on television, radio and newspapers, in a way you just don’t see in Ontario,” said Yvon Lemire, the owner of the West Island outlet of Club Piscine, one of a handful of companies that have continued the marketing blitz for some 20 years now.
“We’re everywhere, and it’s constant. The advertising we do makes most businessmen scratch their heads in wonder. “The advertising put the dream in people’s heads. They found out they could skip one holiday and have a pool for 20 years.” We built a market that wasn’t there.”
The marketing and pricing campaign has been so successful, the above-ground pool has become a sort of impulse buy for many Quebeckers

Truth. If I heard a stat that 60 percent of all RVs in the country are in the SEC's footprint I'd totally believe it.A_B wrote:You've never been to a College Football game in the South, huh?

I know at least three different people who live in Lexington who go and park their RV at the stadium during game weeks. I bet it's similar in other SEC towns. RVs come out no matter.mister d wrote:I'd only believe it if half the league were playing out of conference that weekend.

Re: Random Thoughts About Thoughts Random
My first flight was at age 22 and our family vacation was Cape Cod pretty much every single year growing up. Unless I'm forgetting something, not including a trip to Kentucky as a 2 year old, I'd never been south or west of Richmond, VA until after graduating college, so pretty much anything not inherent to the northeast or mid-Atlantic was completely foreign to me first hand. Driving through Dover, DE on a Nascar Wednesday for the first time was completely mind-blowing. As was my conversation with the John Rocker sympathizer I was forced to speak with upon finally reaching Smyrna, DE. Formative experiences.rass wrote:NASCAR fans definitely do this, even as far North as Delaware.

I've been in the financial industry for two years, but my first thought whenever people talk about "VC" is "wait, that dude's in the Viet Cong?"
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.
