3/20/16: Sunday Night Open Skate

Post by bapo! »

Been years since we've done one of these. Probably doomed from the start since Sunday nights are a Swamp graveyard. But I'll put this here if anybody wants to chat about anything off-topic. It's a grey, overcast day in Pittsburgh, so it already feels like evening. Hence, the early start time. (And it's snowing, so it hardly feels like spring.)

We can talk about our recent eBay purchases (game-used NHL hockey puck from the 1940s), which Japanese wrestling match we've watched on RuTube (Nakamura/Tanahashi), which hockey game we're going to watch (Pens/Caps), or which beers we plan to consume (Victory Vital). It's up to us, Swamp. This night could go anywhere!

Can we talk about surviving your daughter's pre-K class reunion (okay, half of the class) at your house?

Made my first trip to B-Dubs today. Meh. Very meh. The staff was super super nice, though.

The Pens are playing another one of bapo!'s favorite players.

Going to make lasagna later.

Ovechkin, Kuznetsov, Burakovsky, Orpik, plus a half-dozen others. How could anybody not like the Caps?

Unless I hear otherwise, I'm going to assume that B-Dubs is a store that sells knitting supplies.

Watching hoops, on a secondary screen I had an old film about JFK on CSPAN. Then, I watched the current president land in Havana. Shit changes, even if it takes a long time.

I bought some replacement grill parts on Amazon this morning, and my Amex card got hacked. No, I did not purchase $50 worth of Dominos pizza in New York.

Somebody hacked your card to buy Domino's pizza? Are there no other pizza shops in New York? What a waste of a crime.

Meandering around the Internets, I saw that Gil Stein was the NHL President in 1992-93, before Gary Bettman was named Commissioner. I have zero recollection of Gil Stein.

I bought a DVD on eBay of A Grande Arte/Exposure/The Knife/High Art at Mr. Moreta's request. We watched it while imbibing last night. It is very 1991.

Random note I just remembered: I was browsing reddit last night, and I saw that somebody's user name was CATS_BOOBS_GAMING. What a perfect distillation of some poor dude's life.

Big airshow down here this weekend. The Thunderbirds were in town. Got some pretty cool videos from the driveway.

Also, the hens started laying eggs again! Went to the coop and found 10 in there. Feeling like Ice Cube right now.

My wife joined me and another couple for hockey yesterday. This morning, I learned that had somehow obligated me to go to the home and garden show today. But she threw me a bone and took me to the beer store on the way home and consented to my desire to grill some meat tonight (instead of leftovers). It's all about the compromises.

Sometimes you hit a home run, and sometimes you hit a bloop single over the shortstop's glove. Just keep getting on base, man.

Also, if I never see Charles Barkley again in my lifetime, I think I'll be okay.

Very pleasant to read the Sunday Times next to my wife tonight while she caught up on her shows.

I am only hear now because "Girls" is now on.

I haven't been following college hockey much the past few years. Just looked through the bracket, some newer teams at D-I have made a quick name for themselves.

Also, mini-meatloafs are great.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Mrs. BFJ and I will be taking a vacation in May BY OURSELVES. First vacation sans kids since 1999. I'm both equally out of my head excited and terrified (worried about the little one and how he'll deal with my mother being in charge for a few days).
BFJ is the town wizard who runs a magic shop. He also has a golem that he has trained to attack anti-Semites.

Being alone with the missus helps the sex life, which will reduce the stress level. Try to relax and not worry about the kids.
