Yeah, I had a bad feeling going into this four-game Reds series. Curb stomping Timmay and the Jints, 5-0 in the second.

My two cents is "yes". Absolutely. They should have fired him at 22-33. They should have fired him, too, at 27-36. Tonight's blowout comes mere hours after Mark Buehrle publically states "Maybe we were overrated. Maybe we’re not as good as we thought we were." Uh, yeah, no kidding.

That's not the sort of attitude you'd expect to see from someone who still thought they had a chance. Nah. That's the sort of attitude you'd expect to see from someone who knows they're finished. Whenever you see fielding that is so poor, so amateur looking, it is typically a sign that they guys just aren't into the game. And that is squarely on Gibbons; no discipline on that team whatsoever. And Gibbons is soooooooo frustrating to watch when he just sits there like a statue. Man on 1st, no outs, close game? Consider bunting? Nope. Not even close. "Gee, maybe Reyes will hit a 2-run homer here!". Yeah, sure. Gibbons is no Earl Weaver and the Jays are not the 1970 Baltimore Orioles. Just about any time you see a relatively obvious opportunity (bunt, hit-and-run, steal), Gibbons never calls for it.

If you're going to let the players manage the game then you've made your own position obsolete. Cito Gaston was a "players manager", mostly with the pitching staff, but even he made decisions throughout the game. Hell, Cito would be in a constant conversation with Galen Cisco, Gene Tenace, Bob Bailor, Nick Leyva. But friggin' Gibbons just sits there like he has the best seat in the house and he's a fan attending the game all by himself.

Yes. Fire him. Now. Unquestionably.

Save a few for tomorrow. Pace yourself.

Mark Berry is beck at third base. All is well.

1. Do you believe the rumors that A-Rod might get a lifetime ban?

2. Would a lifetime ban mean he is ineligible for the Hall of Fame?

3. If you had a vote, would you vote him into the Hall of Fame if he were eligible?

1. Yes, but I'd bet he doesn't

2. I would imagine

3. Probably not - I really just have not decided on the PED issue, but...he was using, like, forever. I'd say without PEDs he probably would have had a HoF career but...eh. Just don't know.

1. Doubt he'll get "life"; maybe a full season, which might be effectively the rest of his career.
2. Banned players are ineligible for the HoF.
3. Leaning toward "no" on that one; agreeing with Slolz but since I'm dead set against The Head being in the HoF, I'd vote no. Or, more accurately, not vote yes.

Looks like they were both on the wrong side(s) of the base.

Hey, degen, how about now? Think Gibbons goes after that three-game meltdown in the Dodgers series? A 4-14 stretch and riding 7-straight losses. Last night, SportsNet had the camera on the Jays dugout for a solid 20-seconds. And you couldn't help but notice that not once did anyone on that bench so much as say a single word to anyone else on the bench. Then they cut to a shot of Gibbons sitting there, arms crossed, chewing gum (evidently to remain awake), completely isolated and staring into space. Meanwhile, Mattingly is over in the Dodgers dugout carrying on a full-time conversation with Hillman (the bench coach). Gibbons is simply not managing games. He's attending them, sure. That team is utterly lifeless.

They called a "players only" meeting a couple of days ago. An airing of grievances. It didn't help. The Jays relief pitching should be investigated by the United Nations as a possible crime against humanity. Thing is, the Toronto ownership is so frustratingly Canadian-slow to act. That team needs a manager to come in and start motivating guys in a Mike Keenan sort of way.

It was avoidable if Hudson had put his foot in the right spot. Not saying that's easy at full speed, but it certainly isn't easy for young to miss either.

Young was horrified, so there was no harmful intent, IMO.

I guess, degen.

Exciting, sloppy, awful-umpired game in DC today. Nats pour it on early on errors, Bucs come back, Nats add some more, Bucs come back with 4 in the top of the ninth, and then Bryce Harper hits a walkoff dinger with two out in the bottom of the frame. Both managers ejected along the way. Worst strike zone I've ever seen, at least based on consistent badness.

But a hell of a game all in all.

While Dario Bürgler is a suave enough name, I'm tempted to invest in a Cunti jersey.

Post by howard »

Neither of our teams is very good at baseball.

Giants bottom of the eighth, four batters hit the ball into play. In the infield. Despite loading the bases with none out, failed to score. Or hit the ball out of the infield.

Cubs fielded four batted balls in the infield. Two were bunts, intended to be sacrifice bunts, but no outs recorded. Two were with the bases loaded, yet each failed to yield a double play. Maddy Bumgarner and Chris Rusin matching zeros. Yes, THE Chris Rusin, a swamp natural (Detroit native, Kentucky grad, or at least attendee). 0-0 after eight, four hits per team.

At least Gus is calling boxing tonight, otherwise lost for this sports fan.

ETA: Hey Romo, you know that hole in Nate Schierholtz' swing, low and away, that used to be there? It ain't there any more, he covers it. 1-0 Cubs. If I know the fucking scouting report on Nate, you'd think the Giants' closer would.

ETAA: Cubs closer Gregg loads bases with one out (groundout, single, walk, walk). Third inning in a row Giants load bases. Same result--no runs, this time GIDP. Both teams deserve a loss for this mess.

The important thing for the Phillies is this weekend should make even Amaro, Jr. realize they should be sellers over the next couple days.

I'm still kinda fucking steamed about Cabrera getting tossed despite the result and the fact that getting Cabby some rest isn't a bad thing. Umpires who think they're the reason people go to the games are the fucking worst.

Another great Dombrowski deadline deal, no matter how this guy throws. They've also got a reasonable option on him for 2014. Much better than throwing money and prospects at Papelbon.
