I think that's what they said. I would think the rule would be similar to a ball rolling out of bounds.degenerasian wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 6:05 pm Wait.
So its incomplete because no one recovered the fumble or just incomplete cause it was not a catch?

I’m going to wade in on the Flacco-Jackson discussion and point out that the Chargers are a really good team that’s 12-2 over their last 14 games, and Flacco hasn’t been good in 6 years. Maybe they score more than 17 points with him in but I certainly wouldn’t count on it. And prevent defense or not, Jackson made a bunch of plays on the two TD drives and put them in a spot where if not for the strip sack they could’ve at least tried a Hail Mary for the win.

Putting Flacco in would have done nothing but create issues going forward. Jackson gave them a chance. Which means maybe the game plan prior to that should have been tweaked.

There isn't a single starting QB in the NFL who wouldn't have moved the ball in that situation. Bottom line is this offense got figured out by a team it played a couple weeks ago. Good grief, indeed.tennbengal wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 5:50 pm Please spare me yearning for warmed over shit in Flacco to brought into a game where the ravens were blocking like ass. And I don’t care how mobile anyone is, when a RT gets slaughtered around the edge not much a qb can do - that ball was clean swiped. If Jackson isn’t potentially special, that comeback doesn’t happen. Good grief.
Flacco would have thrown a pick to end the game. I have zero doubt about that.

I've reached the point of the game where I'm looking at contract statuses on Spotrac and trying to figure out trade partners for Jordan Howard (Tampa Bay, Houston, maybe Buffalo). Trubisky needs to take about three steps forward next year or the window will close quickly due to the lack of high draft picks.

So, again, if it's all hands on deck and your rookie QB who can make up for porous offensive line play is struggling, why would the guy who wasn't a better passer this season and is far less mobile than that rookie QB make a significant difference?EnochRoot wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 5:57 pm
It's all hands on deck. You're losing. Your rookie QB has done nothing. At all. It's safe to think the Chargers learned from what they saw of him two weeks ago out in California. Snuffed out. And yeah, you can put a whole lotta blame on Harbaugh for that. That's why I was saying just go back to Flacco to make the Chargers adjust away from their 7 DB sets.
And if the Chargers are stopping the run with seven DBs with Jackson in the game ... how are they going to not stop the run with seven DBs with Flacco in the game?
ETA: If Case Keenum had put up the same exact stats as Joe Flacco in 2018, the harping to replace Jackson with Keenum would be far less. But the Ravens' success with Flacco in the playoffs a while back and his Super Bowl MVP makes people thinks he'd be a magic band-aid in January of 2019.

Re: NFL Playoffs-Wildcard Weekend
Since Gould, the all-time leading scorer in Bears' history, was cut (one year, $3 million left on his deal at the time), Bears kickers have collectively gone 57/75 on field goals. Gould is 82/85, including 33/34 this season.
One of the kickers in that time was Connor Barth, who colossal moron John Fox wanted brought in after five good games with the Broncos. Barth was 29/39 with Chicago before they had to cut him mid-season.
The Bears also brought in Roberto Aguayo after he flamed out with the Bucs, picking up a $428,000 guarantee for the kicker, who lasted three weeks of camp.
Cutting Gould and the ransom paid to trade up one spot to get Trubisky are the two moves that stick in my mind with Ryan Pace (there's also a slew of terrible signings prior to 2017, but most were one-year guarantees). Even with the trade for Khalil Mack, hiring Matt Nagy, signing Akiem Hicks, and some other good decisions, I can't say Pace is a good GM.

Not for nothing... but if the field goal in question was made it changed everything in terms of playcalling. So it was right decision in my opinion. And I hate the ravens.

In Parkey’s defense, one of the Eagles defenders got a piece of the ball:
It was a crazy finish though. The Eagles 2PC a few plays before that was really close, to the point that the call on the field probably would’ve stood had they called him in.

I mean, the announcers were sugar-coating the fact the Chargers used a QB spy at MLB, as if teams haven't replaced LBs with DBs to spy on mobile QBs. The Giants used to do that to Randall Carmichael.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 4:32 pmThe Flacco > Jackson thing ignores that Flacco was statistically not a better passer than Jackson this year and that the Ravens offensive line had a hard time today
And at any rate - swapping QBs would've also been about motivating the entire team...
You don't stop the Ravens with a spy, you do it with proper gap discipline. Do you think it took 2 months to discover a solution of "hey put a spy on him"? Kiko Alonso should be arrested for treason for as badly as his spying went against Buffalo.

You don't have to adjust to face Joe Flacco. You just play regular-ass defense and destroy a team that was dead in the water when he was their starter.

By not calling a timeout after the Eagles' first down play on their last set of downs and saving 35-40 seconds?
ETA: It appears the time out should have been after the Eagles got the first-and-goal, not after first down.

Re: NFL Playoffs-Wildcard Weekend
Incidentally, Cody Parkey will almost certainly be a Bear next season. Cutting him would be over $5 million in dead money and they have less than $20 million in space already. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to give a guy who had never gotten above the league minimum two fully guaranteed years for a total of $9 million to a guy who was barely 70% from beyond 40 yards.
They're in very good position due to a large number of cheap players who produce well above cost, but they have four starters who are free agents (counting slot corner Bryce Callahan, not counting punter Pat O'Donnell) and will almost certainly re-sign Josh Bellamy, their 4th WR who is their best special teams player.

Re: NFL Playoffs-Wildcard Weekend
Uh huh. I'd take my chances with Brady or Ben or Rodgers with :45 and a time out to get something done, but not someone who is basically a rookie. You can't expect your kick returner to make an incredible play and give you good field position. And then, once that happened, he was too fast with the time out. I also thought there's no way an 8-yard pass and spike play should have taken 20 seconds, but that one may have been more on Trubisky. Basically I think they left at least one and probably two plays on the table that last drive.

Right. Cost him about 40 seconds or so. Also thought that 3rd down shot at the endzone was insanely risky for a very small chance of a TD. Shit, if the WR catches it and gets tackled at the 3 it's probably game over.
Ravens screwed up their penultimate drive by not scoring before the 2 minute warning but that's more of a shared blame. Nagy basically managed the end of this game the way Tomlin did in Oakland.

Re: NFL Playoffs-Wildcard Weekend
I thought I knew the rules pretty well, but I think I must not understand fumble/possession.
To me, Gordon gets hit by the diving Raven player and the ball is jarred loose... Gordon is kind of corralling the thing as he goes to ground, where clearly did not have possession (the reason the ball flew 5 yards ahead is because it was out of his hands.)
The ground didn't cause that fumble.
I don't really understand why they were so dismissive of the notion that he didn't have possession when he hit the ground.
Somebody educate a brother on this one.

I don't think your understanding of the rule is wrong. IMHO, the officials' judgement was wrong on two consecutive plays. First the Chargers got fucked out of a touchdown. Then the Ravens got fucked out of a touchdown.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Mon Jan 07, 2019 3:59 pm I thought I knew the rules pretty well, but I think I must not understand fumble/possession.

Ok, so at least 2 folks saying I'm not crazy.
So, hear me out a little. Do you guys think the broadcast dismissed the notion that he fumbled so quickly and comprehensively because reversing a fumble call like that was such a shitshow they didn't want to even entertain it? Like, they were essentially covering for the officials/league because the repercussions were so large?
I don't know. That was my thought watching. Like, "these guys don't even want to touch how big a fuck up that call is."

Gordon has the ball in his left hand and it pops free after his elbow hits the ground and he's down by contact.
I have no idea how you look at this and say he didn't have possession.
