You don't have to. It's just a way to break the problem (1 + 2 + 3 + 4 ...) into smaller problems that have known solutions.

Gah. Why did someone inject marinara sauce and cottage cheese underneath the skin of that horse?

And why did I watch it and then follow it up by clicking on the "epic pimple" video linked in the window afterward? I made it like 30 seconds into that one before I clicked it off.

I watched one called something to the effect of "25 year old zit." I had no idea WTF was going on, but someone was attempting to remove what looked like a dark green chunk of artichoke from a tiny hole in someone else's skin. Really no idea what that was. I watched a few minutes of Tosh last night, and they showed reaction vids of people watching the horse pimple, so I had to see what the fuss was. I still refuse to watch 2 girls 1 cup, despite seeing a dozen or so of reaction videos. Yet I did have to see goatse to believe it. I'm surprised the horse was so still and patient, that had to hurt. Those large chunks the guy had to pull out were nasty, and at one point it sounded like someone was gagging. I'd have to imagine the stink was horrible.

Best I can tell there's little to get. The spreadsheet date is 2023. It's typically shallow Toronto fare. Although the protagonist had that kid* to dead to rights with the crossbow yet didn't shoot her. Perhaps this is a short film about regret.

* presumably herself both at the time of filming and the dream time, insane time.

Surely a film school mid-week assignment.

I liked the ambiguity. My take was this was set in some sort of dangerous post-apocalyptic hellscape. The protagonist is a tough survivor who was traveling/surviving with a little girl (Katy). Her sister? The little girl died - likely eaten by monsters ("they are so hungry"). The lonely protagonist is feeling intense guilt and having dreams/hallucinations about the little girl she lost.

Good storytelling, in my opinion.

Let's deconstruct it. For "some sort of dangerous post-apocalyptic hellscape" it's a nice sunny day outdoors and the door to the house isn't even locked. Yet she's carrying a crossbow. Electricity? Yep, works. No problem with the utilities. Bad edit timing on the automated voice beginning just as the (functional) refrigerator is opened. It contains food, presumably unexpired. Welcome to a "collectively run organization dedicated to human sovereignty"? Well, that's boilerplate leftist groupthink so, yeah, "post-apocalyptic hellscape" is starting to explain that aspect. Her duty of the day is "clean washrooms", note the plural, but on the whiteboard upon which there are several distinctly unique handwritings she can't supply the correct date (yet the computer she uses does). There's bottled water, clearly no shortage. There's no point in soldering wiring to a circuit board unless there is a use for a circuit board. She never uses the circuit board; the activity appears pointless and (again) without any character motivation. There is enough disposable material around, no shortage, that she can destroy some (wood) for no apparent reason. The kid voice says "I'm hungry, Ella." She ignores this, smokes a joint. Wakes up but not from a dreamworld, still where she was, she was just napping; the automated computer voice confirms this. Goes to the computer and edits a spreadsheet cell to remove the name of someone that was never really there anyway. The two other windows open on the computer taskbar appear to be Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer (effectively useful only if there is still an internet) so it is not a controlled environment, she can easily alter that. She leaves and doesn't lock the door.

If that is good storytelling it would only be because the viewer did all of the work for it.

Wow, you pretty much broke it down better than I could. When I'm presented with stuff like that of which I have to decipher on my own, I just go blank and move on. Sometimes I'll eventually get it because it'll stick in my head that there was a reason that thing existed and I have to know why, but with this? Lost.

Anyhoo, this mash-up of a trap (that's the genre's name) song and this 80's aerobics workout routine is hysterical. Dude's face at 1:24. Dead.

There was this cult once, and probably there were quite a number of similar cults throughout the ages, that believed its members were an intergalactic getaway team and then when a particularly large comet passed by the Earth, a unique comet in the wake of which trailed an intergalactic spaceship, they would all catch a ride to some paradisaical interplanetary stop somewhere further down along the space bus route. They all dressed for the occasion in snazzy track suits and Nikes; they even had exact change in their pockets for interplanetary bus fare. Nobody really knows what went on behind closed doors before they all drank cyanide and phenobarbital end-it-all martinis and their souls departed for a presumably better disposable product producing planet. Nobody has any idea what they were really up to. But were I a betting man, that video is what I'm putting my money on.
