Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
How many of you have a pair like this? Not necessarily the same color, as I've seen them in black and even a light brown, but basically leather almost sneaker look but clearly meant to be more fashionable.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.
Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
My dad wears those almost exact ones.

No, but I like them. I don't like the way they look with suits though, a la all football announcers.

Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
Ah ha. And now we get to the nitty gritty of my question. These seem to be the preffered footware of most of our senior executives in the office. They have spread like wildfire amongst those ranks. The issue being that they wear them with ALMOST EVERYTHING. And they look pretty terrible with most anything that these guys wear. One guy wears them with jeans and they look like clown shoes.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 2:25 pm No, but I like them. Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
and aside from chuck's and actual sneakers when performing sports, white-soled shoes are highly questionable

Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
Not to derail the discussion but I've ordered standard dress shoes from these guys and been very happy with the price to quality: https://www.beckettsimonon.com/
*BIG DISCLAIMER IT TAKES MONTHS TO GET THE SHOES*
Basically they do small batches of orders and then send them out to help keep costs down, so it might take 2-3 months to get them but they are quite good.

Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
I had a pair of Cole Hahn's, but they were light brown leather. They looked pretty good on casual Fridays with dark jeans and polo or button down. Kind of more in the J. Crew/Banana Republic realm.
I don't like seeing them on guys in suits, as I observed Chris Cuomo today.
They are fancy, dress-up sneakers for work. They shouldn't pair up with suits or khakis or dress pants.

I kinda like that look standalone but I imagine once you have pants covering most of the boot it goes to shit.

To piggyback, I have two pairs of Thursday Boots since they're one of the only non-Tims in wide sizes. Cost a little more but really solid.blundercrush wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 2:54 pm Not to derail the discussion but I've ordered standard dress shoes from these guys and been very happy with the price to quality: https://www.beckettsimonon.com/

Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
I'm just glad I'm not the only one who thinks its not a good look. Again, with the right pants, kinda causal? Go for it. They shouldn't be an everyday sue, but rather wielded judiciously.

I was gifted some John Varvatos leather Chuck Taylors. They're the most expensive shoes I own.

Yeah. Strikes me as a look that an individual might pull off, not one that adjudicates itself.
Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
I don't own a pair. They seem ok, but they aren't my style.

Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
Not a fan of the shoe, but I could see it with a casual look. Horrendous with a suit. Except for maybe a searsucker suit, which is horrendous in its own right.

I kinda like em. Look like they could go with anything. Perhaps that's the problem. I haven't bought clothing in probably 5 years though

Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
I feel like they were the gateway for regular guys to make the switch. Years ago, Deion Sanders would wear Jordans (or whatever) with his suits on NFL Network and when asked about it, simply explained that the years of abuse to his feet made wearing dress shoes exceptionally difficult. Now we have sneakers that look 85% like dress shoes and a bunch of people rationalize that they look good.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2020 2:25 pm No, but I like them. A lot less than 85%, imho.

rotation is key
not leaving the house on a regular basis over the past 8 months is making me sad at how poor my shoe game has become

I’ve been wearing my Ecco golf shoes as regular footwear when the temps dip below 60. Otherwise I’m still wearing my Ecco Yucatan sandals.

Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
I cropped out Simms who wasn’t wearing anything that looked relevant, but I’d say definite yes for Brown and the coach, and a maybe for Norman.

Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
Those shoes look out of place on all those suits.

Simms is the only one wearing traditional “dress” shoes today. Boomer has some high top version of the up to this point thread subject on.

Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
I absolutely stand by "they shouldn't be worn with a suit" comment. The NASCAR guys were all sitting around doing pre-game commentary and they all had these whites soled shoes on and they just look ridiculous. You look like you're wearing tennis shoes guys, sorry-not sorry.

Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
perfect example of a misuse of the sneakers with dress pants trend
jordans and other stylish shoes = good
slip on skechers = very bad
(I think I haven't worn dress shoes since our day in August? and immediately put Jordans on for the rest of the evening. been Jordans whenever we go out ever since)
((also swamp, if you want to get a pair of Jordans, just get a pair of low Jordan 1s and you'll look cooler. promise))

Re: Friday Sartorial Discusssion - Shoes
Maybe I’m a fogie but if you’re going to wear a suit, i.e. two pieces from the same cloth, wear a pair of dress shoes that cost at least half as much as the suit like a goddamn adult.
