Russian forward Dmitri Uchaykin dies after headshot in Kazakhstan hockey league.
I logged onto the hockey blogs earlier, just wanted to take a casual glance at the headlines. Nothing casual about that headline. 33 years old, pregnant wife and daughter left behind.
I can't comment on this because there's no video available (not that I would watch it anyway), and I obviously know nothing about Kazakhstan hockey. But I feel that this should at least be acknowledged. We've talked so much in recent years about head trauma in sports. I think Degen predicted that this would happen eventually. Well, it's happened. Just awful.
Sadly inevitable

Very sad. It's a prediction that I don't want to be right but as you said in the thread title, it's inevitable.
I was thinking more of fights than regular head hits though, one day one of these 250 pound guys is going to connect and the other guy won't get up.
Kung Fu movies are like porn. There's 1 on 1, then 2 on 1, then a group scene..

Well, that happened, too, not too long ago. Not in a high-profile league, but it happened.degenerasian wrote:Very sad. It's a prediction that I don't want to be right but as you said in the thread title, it's inevitable.

I've been meaning to say that I've liked hockey more this season. It still has its questionable moments, of course, but I think some respect for other players might slowly be creeping back into the game. After that Raffi Torres hit on Marian Hossa last year, I truly thought that hockey was broken, but this season has been relatively clean. For the most part, we're talking about actual hockey, instead of 'How many games should this guy be suspended?'
