I watched a good chunk of their game against Napoli yesterday... He's just a really important part of that squad. A lot of stuff that is intangible in terms of ball-hawking that immediately turns into positive movement offensively. And he is really good at lurking around the box on set pieces and creating danger.
He's the type of guy your build a team around.

I've managed to out worry TB this morning because I went ahead and read the article just to make sure it was COVID and that he wouldn't be held up as an example by team anti-vaxx.tennbengal wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 11:33 amSee...I don't even need to read the articles! Exactly what I did! Felt weird having a twinge of relief that it was COVID, not vaccine. Been hearing a lot about soccer players having heart attacks because of the vaccine.rass wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 11:54 amI've managed to out worry TB this morning because I went ahead and read the article just to make sure it was COVID and that he wouldn't be held up as an example by team anti-vaxx.tennbengal wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 11:33 amSee...I don't even need to read the articles! Re: World Cup 2022 - Qatar
I think my sentiment is being misinterpreted. I feel bad for Davies. I'm a fan of his game, and he seems like a great guy. Really cool and down to earth, love his story, and happy to see Canada with a competitive and fun squad, sucks he is missing qualifiers.
When I saw the headline, my concern was anti-vaxxers jumping on a high-profile soccer playing having myocarditis as an anti-vaxx rally cry. I've read and heard numerous people citing a seeming increase in heart conditions in soccer players and other athletes as "proof" that getting the vaccine is more dangerous than not getting it. There is significant increase in risk of myocarditis from vaccines, specifically in teenaged boys. I was hoping this wasn't vaccine related.
So, not at all happy Davies had COVID, and like I said, it felt weird, but I felt a little relief that his condition can't be chalked up to vaccine. I guess the crazies can argue anything they want, but the article said his doctors attributed the condition as a side effect of his having COVID. My relief is Davies condition can't (credibly) be cited as an argument against getting vaccinated.

Re: World Cup 2022 - Qatar
With the Turner to Arsenal rumors, how much does it matter that both of the USMNT keepers would be effectively sitting and watching through the World Cup?
Re: World Cup 2022 - Qatar
The Athletic reported on Jan. 18 that Leeds United has seen a $21 million bid rejected for Aaronson. The report further stated that Leeds "remains intent on signing the forward" despite the rejected bid. The club may see Aaronson as a replacement for Rafinha who has been heavily linked with a departure from Elland Road.

Re: World Cup 2022 - Qatar
I think it’d be a huge mistake for Turner. He is never going to beat out Ramsdale. If this rumor is true, Arsenal must be looking to unload Leno for a cheaper replacement backup. Maybe training with Arsenal is better than playing in MLS, but I think game sharpness is more important.

My two biggest problems with this roster:
* Busio being left off, while Roldan and Acosta take up midfield spots. Hopefully he sticks with McKinnie, Musah and Adams in the middle and it's not an issue.
* I don't like leaving Dike off. He provides a much different look (target) than anyone in the pool. Sometimes you just need to crank it up route 1.
16 players abroad, 12 from MLS.

Here we go usa. Through this week. Making a world cup on of the most exciting on field celebrations I've seen. I'd board a plane for that. But not to fucking Minnesota.
Re: World Cup 2022 - Qatar
I went in February a few years ago and it wasn't too bad. Of course, I only stepped outside once and it felt amazing after walking through all the skywalks wearing multiple layers.

Re: World Cup 2022 - Qatar
I was in Minneapolis for work one winter about 15 years ago. Mrs. Sabo even tagged along for the weekend. We had a great time, even though the high temperature for the entire weekend was something like 5 degrees. The national pond hockey championships were going on that weekend, and we had a blast watching the games.
As long as you're prepared for the cold, it's a great city to visit, even in winter.

Highly unlikely the US qualifies during this window. It's mathematically possible, but would take some decent sides completely shitting the bed while we take all 9 points.

Jesus. I'm not in marketing, but I'm pretty sure kicking off 5 minutes after the AFCG, on Paramount +, is not the best way to generate new fans and spark a real rivalry with Canada.

Re: World Cup 2022 - Qatar
I assume we north americans want a draw there? Panama not getting a point would be good but it would also put Costa Rica one top 3 upset away from making it 5 at the top.

Re: World Cup 2022 - Qatar
I don't think USSF has any control over this. Away game coverage is negotiated with the home team's federation. CONCACAAF probably sets the day of the scheduling, and I assume the home team sets the time and location of the game. I'm going to have to watch this one in Spanish, and sadly I'm happy to have that option. Such an enormous step back for US soccer. I feel like we are back in the late 80's where you had to scramble to see if there was a way to watch a game. I never thought there'd be a return to the days of not being sure if you could watch a Qualifier.

Canada's entire approach to this window seems to be prioritizing travel, so I guess I'm not surprised by the early start.
Their other two games are the important ones for them (same for the USA).

Re: World Cup 2022 - Qatar
US Soccer owns the home game rights. They have worked their cartel magic in the past to help with MLS right and such. That is changing. But as syb said. Away games are owned by the other federations. In the past when no one cared (not too many years ago) you would get an event paid TV company to buy the rights for a game. CBS saw an opportunity to get some soccer at a price and has a place to show it that needs subscribers. Nobody is dropping ESPN because it does not have away games but people will get Paramount+ for them. The Sybian wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 11:00 amI don't think USSF has any control over this. There is so much soccer available (and lots of people who want those games) that you see the fragmentation. Look at the stations to get just top flight leagues...need one of each (paramount, espn+, bein, Peacock). The real kick is you need those additional channels because espn's primary are showing repeats of World Championship Tag, NBC has an auto auction, and CBS has patriot league swimming or an informercial.

And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

I saw a bunch in Milwaukee too. Might work for the north but Charlotte had those too and it sucked the life off the streets. Absurd notion in a warm environment. Maybe ok for Dubai or Vegas.degenerasian wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 9:53 am The skywalks are the best, we copied Minneapolis and have them. Same problem for lacrosse. Used to be 30-45 minute highlight of the NCAA final delayed by months. Now games are across the variety of league-owned stations, web properties and national partners.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 12:02 pmIt's almost enough to make me miss the days of Fox Sports World.wlu_lax6 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 11:59 amThere is so much soccer available (and lots of people who want those games) that you see the fragmentation. Just shows there is a growing market for the game. I mean it was not that long ago that you had to get World Cup games on grainy VHS from a friend who knew a guy months after the actual game, etc, etc.
Re: World Cup 2022 - Qatar
For being such a patriotic country, you would think national team games of any sport would be on one of the big networks for the cost of cable or even better, over airwaves. But that is just a pipe dream, as we are talking about soccer, a foreigners game. Plus the women done got to political for most of the country to care about them.wlu_lax6 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 11:59 amUS Soccer owns the home game rights.
