THE official THE Open thread for 2022

Post by Rex »

Ernie Els is currently tied for second playing a yellow ball. All that's missing is one of those ball retriever thingies.

Yellow balls are no joke! More amateurs should use them, to be honest.

Can't the R&A move the clubhouse about 100 yards? Or just call 18 a par 3?

If Cam young can play the next three rounds in...let's say 4 under...he might just win this thing. not convinced this is going to be a low week.

Serious question. Why? I don’t get why it would matter.

Easier to find and to follow in the air. Especially in the fall if there is leaf cover, in my experience. Not a big deal if you have galleries and TV cameras to help but there are a few courses in my area that aren't the greatest at upkeep and you can lose a ball in the rough. I've found yellow or (gasp!) pink/red balls help out with this.

They don't play any different of course.

ETA: Granted, St. Andrews is yellow as fuck, so it probably doesn't apply there or similar courses.

NBC won't get to avoid talking about the LIV tour this weekend like they did in Brookline.

My GF bet $20 on Talor Gooch at 175-to-1 because she "likes his name" meanwhile I bet on Tommy Fleetwood, who shit his pants.

John Daly bogeyed the last three holes to miss cut and I imagine that was probably by design.

If Tiger really wanted to send a message, he should have skipped the bridge altogether and jumped into the burn.

Something really off about it - is it the reliance on overhead shots?

You really get no feel for why the course is so raved about. And Mike Tirico reading tweets about Tiger when the tweets are on the screen made me turn it off.

Cameron Smith looks like he walked off a police blotter in 1986.

Cameron Smith's putting over the four rounds was nuts, I am unsure about the stats, but it felt like he was hitting all his putts from 10 - 20 feet.
