And while a lot of golf fans are also in the pro-Trump camp, once that loud mouthed POS gets involved, a lot of potential viewers will find more time to spend with their families on the weekends rather than watch LIV
I bet there will be a significant number of people who have never done anything more than putt-putt who will tune in to offset the loss.

I think that LIV's biggest problem is the format. Limiting the field to 48 players (a good chunk of whom are past their prime) is naturally going to inhibit growth unless they are interested in paying guys not to play golf. And it's sort of a tenured position, even though form is fleeting in golf. What is the plan to replace legacy guys like Sergio and Phil when they start sucking too much (if that hasn't happened already)?

Then there is the tournament format (54 holes, no cut on second-tier courses), which I don't find to be compelling for fans in attendance, TV viewers or guys trying to sharpen their game. The pro-Tour guys may be going a little overboard in their spin with the "exhibition" talk, but it is certainly a less than ideal way to prepare for the majors.

And here's the thing: In the absence of having a cut line, and the fact that (apparently) most of the higher end guys were just handed life altering money, therefore pretty close to zero incentive to go out and grind, what do the Saudis have to motivate the higher end guys?

Like... You just handed me $x00 Million. You gonna up the purse? Who fucking cares, I don't need THREE private planes.

There is truly a point where I just don't see what motivates these guys to play decent golf at these random ass venues, where barely anyone is watching.

I think for this thing to survive, it's gonna need to go full on Team Event, or something where the scoring gets weird. Like, the XFL of golf.

It would certainly give a new version of Scramble for the Ball.

Except the PGA wants to that way too. 8 lucrative no-cut events

Right, which I'll pay zero attention to, but hey, I'm probably not their demo?

To be crystal, as the article states in the headline, this isn't about us right now, this is about a money/arms race on a different level.

I really don't get what the PGA is doing here. They spent years reworking the calendar to avoid competing with the NFL, and now this? Plus it's too many events and still not enough money which was the problem in the first place.

So I've been thinking. Read the Ringer article about LIV and it's what you would think. Just awful people deciding to do awful things. Which brings me to the thought that there is only one thing that will tank LIV. And it's Augusta banning LIV members, even former champs, from playing. I don't think they will, but they've been way more progressive than I ever thought they would be lately to be honest. If they did, it would be hilarious, and I think it would move the needle.

Patrick Reed is suing The Golf Channel & Brandel Chamblee for $750m....he claims the pundit's opinions have led to fans calling him a 'cheater' at events.

So one of the reasons he's suing is that PGA golfers and a network that broadcasts it are trying to damage the competing tour?

I wouldn’t say I’m rooting for the International team entirely, but I am rooting for Hideki Matsuyama and Tom Kim. I’ve never heard of Tom Kim before this event but now I want to watch him every damn week.

I was rooting for Tom Kim to make his putt because I thought it might be fun (and it was).

I might have rooted against the older guys, but in golf's current time of troubles, I think it actually may be important for this US team to win. Or not to lose.

This could be interesting if the internationals win 3 out of the first 4 matches, making it effectively 12-10. US has a ginormous advantage in the next 3, but after that, eeehhhhhh. I mean the Jets won a game last week.

He is a lot of fun, and he's only 20 yo.

SW Kim and J. Thomas getting very spicy. Kim did the "shush" gesture and it didn't go down real well. That said, he's now 1UP, so... Good for him.

I don't want to get in trouble, but... If these Korean guys showed this kind of emotion and character more regularly, they would do themselves wonders in terms of Q rating and marketability.

A lot of fun to watch both Kims this weekend.
