FC Swamp - The FM Experience
So here we are. Details to come next week. FC Swamp is a thing.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Seems like FC Swamp will be a pretty pampered bunch

Re: FC Swamp - The FM Experience
We are starting in the Championship and we took Norwich's spot. I wanted to do Blackpool of course but the values didn't work. With this team we will be either massively overpowered or strangely inept. A big part of that is me. More info on tactics and players to come. I could only create 30 unique players but I hit most of the guys who follow the soccer stuff. I also made sure Turd and Carwash had good roles because they have provided so much content for us to enjoy.
Swamp Stalwart Bengal, one of our Center Backs, is our captain, fittingly.
I'll get more into player evaluations soon.

Absolutely stoked to see someone other than myself running a game like this. Can't wait.
(I don't need a particularly high profile role, though, so feel free to appease the egomaniacs here at my expense.)

I'm going to make sure I use sqaud rotation as much as possible, but in the championship there aren't as many games but you are a central midfielder to help the spine of the team.Johnny Carwash wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 9:15 pm Absolutely stoked to see someone other than myself running a game like this. My player creation wasn't exact as I left a lot of things whatever the computer generated, but I did try to put certain swamp aspects into play. For example, Johnnie is a winger who excels at support (logistics) and Giff has a teamwork of 20 and is happy to play through balls.
But I did set most players to a decently high potential ability to help if we do get promoted. Obviously ages aren't realistic.
And yes, Nonlinear, you are the starting GK.
And again, if you don't have a player it isn't personal. I will try to add people as I can in ensuing years.

Re: FC Swamp - The FM Experience
Johnnie is also from Uganda, for obvious reasons.
Most people are from england, but here are some exceptions:
Rass - Costa Rica (recency bias)
Brian - Mexico
bobbyPentz - France
Tom1860 - Wales (not really an exception)
Pruitrr & Degen - Canada
Chedda - Spain (No idea why)
Citgo - Scotland (no clue)
MisterD - USA
PDX - Belize
Daveineattle - Australia
i fucked up not knowing I could not create more than 30 players so ThatFrenchGuy didn't make initial cut but hope I can add him later.

Re: FC Swamp - The FM Experience
Fantastic I was going to do this a few years back but was intimidated by the game and work required. I started as DC United and screwed up the roster so bad I could only use Wayne Rooney in US Cup matches and had to let Hamid go

Re: FC Swamp - The FM Experience
Here's the full first team roster (HaulCtigo doesn't appear but he is a Striker at the bottom...see below for a bit of explanation). I tried to make a balanced team capable of being versatile in formation. I like to use squad rotation, but granted that's usually with teams in the PL with fixture congestion. So we may have a few guys who get on the team sheet more often, but there will be experimentation. Having some trouble with my screenshots, so I hope this looks ok and may have to wait until I have a better sized screen for certain things.
If there's a position you really wanted to play, I can add a training schedule to increase versatility. I'll have an update on stats later. And sorry once again for not getting everyone in.

Re: FC Swamp - The FM Experience
For the uninitiated, there are a few main stats for keepers: Handling, Aerial Ability, Command of the Area, Reflexes. Then Throwing and communication are the next level down. Shirley has generally low stats but he is 16 years old and will spend some time with the youth/reserve squad for seasoning. NonlinearFC will start, BFJ will back up and get a start here and there. Of some note is that our top two keepers are somewhat prone to injury.
We have 4 friendlies before the season starts, and I anticipate of the 360 minutes I'll break it down 150 NLFC, 120 BFJ 90 Shirley.
Another key thing about this game is that if guys don't get regular playing time they end up suffering in form. So we will have guys drop down for the occasional reserve game. I'm also extremely injury conservative, so if a guy picks up even a slight knock in a game (this goes for all players) I usually try to replace him ASAP.

Re: FC Swamp - The FM Experience
Yeah. When you create a player it randomizes certain things. And I forgot to reset his age a bit higher, but since GKs don't need as much depth it's fine.

Sniff…I never got picked for soccer before. I got this coach.
BFJ is the town wizard who runs a magic shop. He also has a golem that he has trained to attack anti-Semites.

We had this poster up at the house I lived in my senior year of college. A housemate had interned at Disney the previous summer.
Also, if anyone else wants to be a drunken hooligan, let me know so we can start thinking of original off-color chants.

Yeah, I think the scouting report was "sancarlos dogs it too often." And it was the same year after year.

Semi-related and hoping this gets stuck in someone's head ... I'm headed back to Poughkeepsie for the match Friday and we're going to be at the same place as the Hudson Valley chapter of the American Outlaws. A friend and I spent part of a day this week coming up with chants to outduel them, but all to the tune of Smashmouth's All-Star and intentionally pointless. Re: FC Swamp - The FM Experience
Our defenders are below. For defenders, acceleration, positioning, marking, tackling and concentration are all important. Jumping and heading help as well, and that's probably the weakest part of our team. Nice to have your fullbacks be able to dribble and cross, but those are the things that really seemed to drive up value for defenders so we may not have as much marauding down the flanks. Bengal is a monster in most categories, but is a bit undersized. Giff, as he does, is great with teamwork and working off the ball.
