Couldn’t be worse than what Wright brought to the game. I didn’t question that decision because I didn’t know enough about Wright. He looked like he was afraid of the ball. The the last shot is inexcusable.

Yeah, my group went nuts when he did that.

I know that he is part of the young gun group that came up together. I've watched some really great highlights from him this season. I just don't think he's ready for this level.

DRAMA going on with this slate of 3rd group games.

Tunisia go up 1-0 on France (who are sitting a BUNCH of players) and no more than 5 minutes later, Australia finishes clinically on a counter break and they are winning 1-0.

ETA - If you're not staring at the tables, Tunisia and Denmark need a win and an AUS loss.

Can we have less European teams? They bring nothing. Denmark, Switzerland, Serbia, Wales (Belgium, just kidding) etc...

People who say that the Euros are better than the World Cup just like seeing 0-0 draws.

They are just so dull. More spots for teams like Ghana and Korea and Canada who at least brought some excitement even if they don't advance.

Who doesn't want to see more Senegal instead of Switzerland.

I guess we are getting that in 2026.

The European teams you named combined for one 0-0 draw ... the same number of 0-0 draws that the three teams you mentioned next combined for

Australia result would guarantee every confederation get at least 1 team through to round of 16.

So Australia enters the US bracket. Now we're all cheering for Saudi Arabia to beat Mexico and win the group (with a Poland-Argentina draw)

That would have been absolutely wild if that goal was to make the difference between advancing or not. That will be a hotly debated call.

It can't be Mexico. That is good news. I don't think I would split hairs between the Saudis and Poland.

Other half has ENG-SEN-FRA-??? Would be equally hilarious if ARG or MEX.

Very interesting starting 11 from Argentina. No Paredes in the middle, Lautaro on the bench. Dybala hasn't seen the field yet. And this is a must win game.

It's not like it's unprecedented, but it sure is nice to see Mexico having to face a hostile, overwhelming in numbers crowd.

I want them to win simply for regional rankings, but, you know... Rough equivalent to rooting for aOSU...

A half ass half chance with the stakes on the line. Not a very smart decision, to say the very least.

How is that a half chance? Seem to recall him more or less alone with the keeper way too far out. Maybe poor recollection

TBH, I need to go back and look. In the moment, it felt very speculative and a poor decision. But, I was EXTREMELY stressed out at that point, so I may be misremembering.

Gimme a minute... I'll be right back. :D

Replay at 2:29:11. Far from a half chance. There is a defender closer than I realized but the goalie is scrambling backwards and is still outside the goalie box when he strikes it. All strikers should finish that more often than not. Left footed sure, but hes a pro.

all good too... just seems like way too much grief from a lot of quarters for what was probably the right decision or at worse reasonable. No way he knows if theres 15 seconds or 2 mins left

Wright's xG on that play is under 0.1 on both FBRef and Infogol.

Forget the incorrect metrics just watch the replay. Thats not one out of 10 other than its on his left. Goalie is way too far out scrambling backwards. Just a chip and hes got time.

Right, but he doesn't have a left foot.

Sorry man, but that's 101. Unless you are literally wide open in front of the net, you take that to the corner. Maybe if it's on his right foot? But it wasn't. Lots of very high level strikers don't have both feet to finish from that far out. I'm not slagging on the guy. Just a poor decision.

If this result stands, I think it goes to the 3rd tie-breaker - Fair Play. Which would go to Poland.

I mean, as discussed, better for CONCACAF for Mex to go through... but...

It's pretty delicious if MEX gets bounced out due to yellow cards.
