Artemis Launch

Post by duff »

Anyone watching? Launch scheduled for 1:04 with 2 hour window.

We did some coating for the booster caps.

There was a delay because they had an ethernet switch go out in the range. Pushing back the window right now.

Yeah, it's a non-nutritive booster cap coating. It's semi-permeable. It's not osmotic

(I miss being fascinated by stuff like this, or excited as you were above - definitely a me issue, not a NASA issue)

Missed it thought it was 1:04pm.

Doubt I would have seen it anyway as it's a cloudy morning but would have been worth a look.

I hadn't given much thought to the space program for years. But my place of work does metal finishing and we coat parts for Artemis, as well as BlueOrigin and SpaceX. Gave me the space bug.

Brings back the days of watching Space Camp and reading Odyssey.

I forgot that a friend of mine works for NASA and worked on this. So I woke up this morning to her video of it taking off. So fucking cool and proud of her.

NASA needs better PR. I didn’t even hear about this until yesterday.

Same. They're missing the folks who remember the prior moon launches.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Not sure if it's one of those things inherently exciting to boys (like dinosaurs at a younger age) or if it was the prominence of NASA in popular culture, the news, movies, etc... I went through a phase where I was reading a lot about NASA, rockets, planets, etc... Now, you rarely see it in pop culture or the news. There is still cool shit going on with Mars exploration and private companies launching rockets.

And this thread is the first I'm hearing of this launch.

I shouldn't have gender stereotyped the love of dinosaurs, but since none of our few female Swampers have posted in a long time, I was talking to just us boys.

Weren't the last two expansions of the space program by Bush and Trump? I feel like those were both seen as desperate political moves and didn't really get buy-in from the people who'd normally be invested in space exploration.

Artemis is landing on Earth around 12:38 pm EDT today. If you have an Apple TV device, NASA has an app and they are airing live coverage of the return.
