Vegas victory parade seems to comprise a lot of tourists just checking it out which hell yeah if I were in Vegas for the weekend I’d check it out. That’s a free show.

Not NHL, but The Calder Cup (AHL) is going to game 7. Cochellea Valley (Kraken) went out to a 2-0 lead in the series, but the Hershey Bears (Caps) fought back to take a 3-2 lead. Cochellea has generally won big. Bears have won close. Games seven is tomorrow night.

Home team has won all 6 games so far. Bet on both major pro hockey trophies spending the year in the desert.

Game 7 will be streaming for free and on a few TV Stations. AHLTV (web), NHL Network, NBC Sports Washington and Root Sports Northwest, and can be heard on NHL Network Radio (SiriusXM 91).

and unfortunately as a Caps fan I agree. The firebirds have won their games big. Caps have had to grind out 1 goal wins.

I was having a hard time wrapping my head around Coachella having enough people to support an AHL franchise. Hit the Google map and Duh... Palm Springs and Indio right there. Had always thought Coachella was much more isolated/out there than that. I think I had somehow conflated it with Burning Man for some reason.

And, lots of Canadians winter in the area every year. If you’re a Saskatchewan wheat farmer who can afford it, you drive your fifth wheel down that direction some time after harvest. I have relatives who’ve done it for years. And, Canadians like to attend hockey games!

Long Calder Cup runs are always good though. Vegas’ team at the time also went to Finals their second season like Seattle is now and Hague/Whitecloud got valuable experience. Also VGK saw Nic Roy playing for other team in final and decided they had to have him and he’s turned out to be a great fourth-line center.

Most recent PDOcast with Dimitri Filipovic and Kevin Woodley was REALLY interesting regarding matches for goalies and teams. i.e. the Sabres give up a ton of slot chances and Hellebuyck is bad on that type of chance, ergo he'd be a bad fit in Buffalo unless they change their defensive style.

VERY very true. The Bears, who always seem to be pretty good, made a really deep run around the time that guys like John Carlson and Karl Alzner were on the team. Playing hockey in late May and June helps those players understand what true pressure at the professional level is all about.

One of the low-key most hilarious things about this is I’ve spent more time in Hershey than I would have liked and there’s probably only like 2 or 3 bars in the town that stay open past midnight to begin with and it’s 1 am now.

MAF is a slam dunk hall of famer.

Bloodying Roy in the most epic goalie fight in NHL history should get Vernon into the Hall alone. Vernon's selection is more for nostalgia. His save percentage isn't really that great (even compared to peers who played the same seasons), but he won a lot. Only Flames goalie to beat the Oilers in a series. Only goalie to beat Roy in the final. He really should have two Conn Smythes. I know MacInnis was ridiculous in those playoffs but Vernon saved
the Flames in the first round Game 7 overtime against the Canucks. That alone was epic.

I find the AHL an interesting league. Players on their way up, tweeners for the NHL, and lifers. And age does not mean much.

The guy who scored the cup winner. 30 years old, 2 games with the flyers in 2016-2017 and 1 game with the Caps in 01-02. Hobey Baker finalist and Union's all time leading scorer.

The MVP of the playoff is 27 but played 4 years of college hockey and 2 years of junior and has only been in the ECHL/AHL/NHL since 2020-2021

It’s not very scientific because a lot of the data is proprietary but according to the NHL the single day record for merch sales in NHL history was set on the day VGK won the Cup. The previous record was apparently LAK’s second Cup win

The only professional hockey i've ever seen (sorry I couldn't make Tampa work in the cup season, Chedda) was when Lexington had an AHL team and tickets were like $5 bucks so we went a few times to Rupp to watch. It was a fun experience and I think my friends hated that I was actually trying to watch the game. Anyway, Zdeno Chara was on the team and then went on to be Zdeno Chara. And I vaguely remember that he was clearly better than everyone. Being 6'7" obviously made it noticeable.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Yeah, the AHL is a lot like high level minor league baseball. Affordable and (for the most part) pretty high level play.

I think hockey is a sport that you really need to experience in person to get a true sense of the relative speed and power exhibited on the ice.

And the sounds. Sounds of skates on ice, puck hitting sticks and goalie pads, pucks or bodies against the boards

DeAngelo back to Carolina is on hold because the Flyers are so incredibly stupid that it looks like a cap violation. Its not, but it fits the criteria.

Well, LeBrun’s article basically says the league is the one pushing the issue, and that the Flyers have to convince them it’s ok.

Man, I legit feel bad for Taylor Hall. Signs a friendly partial NTC deal because he's happy in Boston and then gets salary dumped halfway through it to the bad team and even worse franchise.

Erik Karlsson wins his third Norris. Well deserved after 100 point season. He gets dinged for a bad +/- but a significant number of the minuses were empty net goals at the end of losses. The guy was on the ice all the time and the rest of the Sharks’ defense (and goaltending) was pretty ugly. Getting to watch him regularly in an injury-free season was pretty impressive.

He absolutely deserved it. And might help SJ flip him for some real prospects despite his contract so good for them both.

It’s a bad contract, but there have been sooo many horrible deals in the nhl over the years. The Rick DiPietro contract certainly comes to mind. Vlasic is way overpaid, for too long, but that’s not super-unique.

Habs couldn't offer as much $$ as the Kings. They're already 1.5 mil over for next year with only 20 players. Additionally the Jets wanted NHL players, not prospects, which the Kings had and the Habs didn't.

I don't think there's any doubt that PLD would have chosen MTL over LAK, all things equal.

PLD on that contract seems like a great deal and Vilardi is a really nice get in return. A good trade.
