Re: NFL Week 4
For those of you who don't get to spend 3 1/2 hours with the Bills each Sunday, here's all you need to know about the team...
EJ Manuel is complete garbage and will be out of the NFL by the end of next season.

you probably saved some money on not needing sun screen so it's not all that bad. Re: NFL Week 4
I dont mind Buck that much. He lets Aikman do his job.
Brennaman has insane ideas and talks over his analyst.
Down 24-20 he thought the Bucs should kick a FG then use their 3 timeouts on defense.

Re: NFL Week 4
Tomlin really needs to go. No, AB dropping that gorgeous pass after the flea flicker isn't his fault or a 29 yard punt with the game on the line isn't his fault or 45 yards on a quick slant isn't his fault but he's a fucking deer in headlights. Five unsportsman like conduct penalties. FIVE! He's completely lost control.

Fair point. I guess I tend to underrate their historical level of suckitude because they've been decent to very decent for most of the last 15 years, but you have a point. (In fact the four division winners in the NFC would have a combined 0 Super Bowl titles and only four appearances.)howard wrote:The Iggs don't rate inclusion in you red box of Armageddon?

I'm glad they worked out the tiebreakers.
Re: NFL Week 4
I enjoy seeing those so early in the season, since so many are convoluted. Obviously they usually work themselves out pretty straightforward by the end of the season.Rex wrote:I'm glad they worked out the tiebreakers.

This is great defensive strategy. The Raiders are playing press zone, with a two man blitz. The cornerback's job is to jam the three clustered receivers. He's got a safety in back in the odd case of one receiver getting by him. But more important, they are coming with six up front. So the QB will be trying to throw as he's being tackled by rushers.

Re: NFL Week 4
Yeah I'm glad you said something because that defensive formation is not as bad as it appears from the image. They could also send one of the blitzing linebackers into the flat to cut off the passing lane for a quick pass to one of the clustered receivers and still have enough pressure to get to Tannehill if the press CB gets a jam on two of the WRs.

Re: NFL Week 4
Now I never played the game or nothin', but I'm not sure pressuring the QB into making a quick read is the smartest play when they're in the shotgun only 13 yards away from the end zone. I don't think a fake end-around is coming. He's getting the ball out quick no matter what.2-7-OAK 13 (14:24) (Shotgun) 17-R.Tannehill pass short right to 11-M.Wallace for 13 yards, TOUCHDOWN.

Re: NFL Week 4
I don't think it's an optimal defensive formation, but it's certainly not as aggressively stupid as the image is meant to imply. Some people who don't know anything about football would want you to put three DBs on the clustered WRs, but that's just as bad of an idea.

Re: NFL Week 4
I don't know. A quick pass to the back, outside receiver and I don't see how you stop him from scoring. The other two guys block the CB and safety and your outside linebacker would have to be Usain Bolt to stop the TD. The only hope is your CB or safety could get off the block quickly, but that's a dream for a CB, who tend to be smaller than WRs.brian wrote:Yeah I'm glad you said something because that defensive formation is not as bad as it appears from the image. Totally Kafkaesque
Re: NFL Week 4
I didn't see how the play turned into a TD, but that's of course the idea with that formation almost regardless of how the D chooses to play it. I would have had two DBs on the three WRs with the safety help that was already there. If the widest blitzing LB has the presence of mind to fire straight off into the potential passing lane before attacking the QB instead of taking a straight shot to the QB, that could blow the play up also.Shirley wrote:I don't know. There's a safety ALMOST off-picture to the far left. You can almost make him out if you look closely.sancarlos wrote:Has anybody noted that the Raiders appear to only have 10 defenders?brian wrote:Yeah I'm glad you said something because that defensive formation is not as bad as it appears from the image. At the very least this should have been a quick audible to a screen to the bottom WR of the cluster and let those 2 guys in front blow open a hole for him. Rare to get a look at a screen that would work that well. Even if the safety comes unblocked to the receiver, you've got a chance to make a move in the open field or at least get 4-5 yards on a clean tackle.
Anyone know what the result of this play actually was?
