I'd be willing to bet they have the highest average SAT scores in the tourney.

BTW, I loved that Crimson win even if it did cost me my first Sweet Sixteen casualty.

Man, the CSU Rams were dominant on the Boards, weren't they? They were the 8 seed, but Missouri was the betting line favorite.

Being a Mountain West fan, it was tough seeing Rush's boys shit the bed against Harvard. They looked horrible.

Oklahoma State and UNLV must be wondering how they pissed off the NCAA. Two five seeds that seemed set up to lose (and I picked them both to lose in my Swamp bracket.) OK State goes to the west coast to play a west coast team that had no business being seeded so low, and UNLV has to play Cal just 40 miles from the Berkeley campus.

And counting. I really hope the Berkeley guys were taken out for post-game pizza or something and are NOT seeing what Syracuse is currently up to.

And, sancarlos, watching that Mountain West final a few days ago, a great game, if you told me both UNM and UNLV would be eliminated in the first (real first) round of the NCAA? I wouldn't have taken that bet.

So what do you fellas make of Gonzaga? Was today just a minor hiccup? Or something to worry about?

I'm betting the house on Wichita State. They play in a real conference at least. Unlike the WCC or the Mountain West.

Today was a hiccup. But that is a tough bracket. Wichita State is excellent, they are certainly no pushover (neither is Creighton, the other Missouri Valley team in the tournament). And if Gonzaga does get past WSU, they get either Kansas State or Wisconsin. Beyond that is Ohio State.

Gonzaga beat Kansas State (by 16) back on Dec 15th, right after their first loss of the season (to a Big 10 team, Illinois).

Thing is, record aside, Gonzaga hasn't really played a decent team since Butler on January 19th. And they lost that one, tremendous game though it was. The only tournament team they played since then has been the St. Mary's Gaels.

Wisconsin playing ugly. Rebels playing dumb. Henderson 1-11 first half. Too bad you can't run-your-mouth the ball into the hoop.

Yet, he's been doing it in the second half.

A no-nonsense, disciplined team like Wisconsin seems like the worst possible opponent for Henderson. Not gonna fall for his antics.

I started watching at the beginning of the second half. Announcers said Henderson needed his shot selection reined in, as he was 1-11 at the time. Last I saw, he was 5-10 in second half and a three-point deficit is now a nine-point lead with under a minute left.

The height and athleticism difference between Syracuse and Montana was staggering. This won't be the case with Cal. That said, I am more interesting in seeing if Syracuse plays with the same level of energy and focus again.

Boeheim has actually been completely indifferent about it, basically because it is literally the same allegations that surfaced last year before the tournament.

I just hate Wisconsin so much (yes, more than Duke), so that was really nice to see Henderson get to run his mouth all second half. Now I hope he loses.

He can wait and get one of the big jobs with ease (I only consider about 6-8 jobs big jobs). And yeah, UNC would be a good fit as well as Old Roy isn't getting any younger either. I think Self and Crean are entrenched for a long time. I don't think UCLA would be a good fit for his style (see Howland, Ben). I think Cal is here for longer than Roy or Coach K. I could probably see something like Syracuse now that they are in the ACC.
Something to remember is that Stevens is an Indy boy. His family is here. He has built a solid program here. I listen to radio interviews with him all the time. I don't think he is a guy who is going to chase the big money. And I don't think Tom Crean is going anywhere anytime in the near future. I'd put solid money down that Stevens is going to be at Butler for the foreseeable future.

Just .02 from your resident Indy guy on the board.
This is exactly right. Which is why I think he can wait for the big ones. No hurry. But Coach K is 66. Roy is 62, but it seems like an old 62. Boeheim is 68 (but I think Syracuse is a reach).
Stevens will be doing even better financially in a couple years after Butler is established in the new version of the Big East. He and the program will be much more high profile then and his contract value will only go up, so there will be even less reason to jump to a different job.

Regarding Boeheim, Mike Hopkins, his lead assistant (18 years on the staff under Boeheim after playing for him) is the coach-in-waiting. That said, Hopkins interviewed for the USC job a few weeks ago, is from Orange County, and has an ailing parent. The Syracuse AD said he endorsed Hopkins for the USC job (his previous job was assistant AD for USC), but also told Hopkins that if he left, he would still get the first crack at the Syracuse job when Boeheim steps down (Boeheim reiterated on Dan Patrick Show this morning that he isn't retiring).

Yup. Their top six players are easily top ten in the country, talent-wise. When they care and play well, they are scary.

I figured they'd focus enough today to get by and then turn on the gas against Indiana, pulling the upset.

So yeah, I need the Pack to get their shit in gear here.

Most disturbing trend: number of basketball and football players 20 years old or younger who are named Shaquille.

I'll know I'm old when the LeBrons start coming up through the college ranks.

Wow, up against a very good team and their crowd. Fought off blowing that tremendous first half lead. And pulled out that nail biter.

Congrats to LaSalle.

Looking forward to the game on Sunday. Should be a lot of fun.

If Villanova wins, it will be a helluva a day for Philly.
The Lasalle kids could do far better celebration-wise than imitating that douchebag from Mississippi, even if that is their next opponent.
Anyway, between that and the Harvard win, everyone's brackets should be a nice shade of blood-bath red by now.
