men in blazers pod is going to be fantastic this week. (if they're still podding.)

QUARTERBACK STYLE!

eta: superb quality by johnson on the touch and the finish.

yup, pass, control and finish was world class. It's the type of goal England used to be able to produce.

Despite the scoreline, I think Panama have played well. They are organized and are making the Americans work.

I fully expect the US to get 15 points at home so that's a wash for all teams. So it wouldn't surprise me to see Panama take something from this game and be there at the end. They can beat Costa Rica and Honduras.

We won. So there's that.

That was a rather comforting borderline dominant performance from the US. Quality goals, good idea defensively, nice possession through the midfield to yield opportunities. Klinsmen!

The Seattle crowd was amazing last night. They should be very proud of how they represented the city and its fan base. I loved the chants in the second half, especially the long, drawn out USA chants.

Same here. I thought ESPN/announcers did a great job of just letting the crowd noise take over. I would have loved to be a part of it.

I see a lot more games being scheduled in Seattle. Crowd was fantastic. I had the "We are going to Brazil" chant in my head the whole morning. Because we are going to Brazil! The US had a tough early schedule, and it's all downhill from here. CR in CR will be difficult, and Mexico at home is still a tough game, but we have a lot of home games left. I love being 2 points up on Mexico with a game in hand, and already having stolen a point in the Azteca. This Hex is nuts with all the ties, though. Very tight, and I love the competition. Just about every game could have gone either way with one stroke of luck.

I think Honduras is in deep shit. Only 7 points and they still have to play away to both US and Mexico.
Home ties against Costa Rica and Panama won't be easy either. In the semifinal round, Panama won 2-0 in Honduras.

The field situation needs to be settled a bit, but if that can be improved Seattle will definitely get more games. But USSF doesn't want to play on turf and the temporary grass isn't ideal.

I think the pitch would have been more adequate if they didn't have an MLS game the night before to tear it up. That was pretty dumb.

oops forgot to clarify. Sounders played on Saturday and the US trained on it Sunday and it was already torn up. If the US trained on it all week, it would have been better.

"We are going to Brazil"

But there was also an equally long song of:

"You're not going to Brazil"

Best live soccer experience I've ever had in North America. Tip to toe, brilliant in every way.

Looking back at the half-dozen tweets I posted from the stadium, "The pitch looks horrific, like it was chewed by wolves" is the only line of my ramblings that resonates. All else was jingoistic euphoria. My heavens, that field was terrible. It really did look like a garden tiller ran over it.

I can't emphasize enough how proud I am of that crowd in Seattle. I went home believing that, yes, it's arrived and it is a joy to experience. It far, far, outweighed the last time I visited Portman Road for an Ipswich Town match. It was like witnessing creation, had all the elements of a memorable Euro soccer experience, yet was uniquely American. Just like we created Jazz. Yeah, it was that good. And as you witnessed, it had that much joy and passion.

I was equivocating about going until I asked around here if the game was sold out. If Brian didn't respond so quick, I likely would not have gone for it. So thanks, eh, for the kick in the ass. I owe you one :^)

The crowd sounded fantastic on the broadcast. Can't wait until September to head to Columbus for the above mentioned qualifier. The crowd last September 11th against Jamaica was great and the stadium doesn't have a bad seat so I have high hopes for the game.

The only USMNT game I've been to was a WCQ against T&T at Rentschler Field (UConn). The T&T fans were fantastic, but the US fans were fairly quite and completely not unified. Even in the tailgating, T&T fans were super friendly and would just meander around and join other groups parties all smiles and jokes. Then the Soca bands were just amazing. Didn't stop playing from tailgate through marching out after the game. Despite losing 1-0 to the US, they partied their way out and did a lap around the Stadium playing and dancing to the cheers of the American crowd as we let them through.

The match is not at The Horseshoe, is it? Or the Crew home ground? tOSU stadium would be pretty cool, and easier to get tickets.

I've been to a soccer match at the Shoe. It's a horrible place to watch soccer.

Yes, the Sept. 10 game is at the Crew Stadium.

Way too big. You're so far away from the action. Even at the top of the lower levels you're far removed.

We're a long way away from the US being able to play qualies in stadia of 80, 90 or 100,000. These days it's about making sure, it's a loud, pro-American crowd, so that's why they're being played in SLC, Columbus, Kansas City, etc. The last couple at RFK were debacles. We had drinks thrown on us in our country by Hondurans in RFK. It was an embarrassment.

Got it. Thought vs Mexico we might be closer to filling a big ballpark. No doubt Crew Stadium will rock loudly.

Three more teams have qualified.

South Korea
Iran
Australia

South Korea nearly blew it.

Uzbekistan will play Jordan in an Asian playoff to meet the 5th South American.

Scottie: USA/Honduras will once again be on SN1 tonight.

A rather chippy first 15 minutes. And no surprise that Jermane Jones already has a yellow to his name. The US has had some good chances already ... Now they just need to convert.

This got ugly. Is it just too hot to keep the tempo up? They are letting Hondo take all the air out of the game. You have to feel like a goal is going to come out of all the crosses the US is putting in. Also close to a number of breakaways, but the passes are just too strong.

What is really shocking is all of the unforced errors by Hondo putting the ball out of play with little or no pressure. Just missing simple passes. Just need to avoid horrible errors like the Beslar Gonzalez two-fer that almost cost us dearly.
