Isn't there a current player going for rugby?

Looks like. So guess it'll be a tie between him and Best. (Surprised that any NFL team, but especially the Pats would sign off on this.)A_B wrote:Isn't there a current player going for rugby?

Update: "Retired" former 49er starter Anthony Davis filed for reinstatement today. Will be interesting to see if he and the team put the bad blood behind them, or if he gets traded elsewhere.sancarlos wrote:So, as background, you should recall that the 49ers are a bit of a tire fire, what with a weak roster featuring a quarterback who doesn't want to be there and Chip Kelly riding in to the rescue. Also, you may recall that one problem the 49ers had last year was finding a competent warm body to play right tackle. It was a problem spot all year long, after incumbent right tackle Anthony Davis surprisingly retired following the 2014 season, citing a need to recover more fully from concussions.
A couple months ago, Davis pronounced himself fit and ready to rejoin the team in 2016. GM Trent Baalke didn't exactly rejoice at this news, and it appears lingering bitterness remains. So, Davis has consistently said he is coming back, but also has not filed his un-retirement papers with the league. He's also taken some shots at 49ers management, possibly due to Baalke's hesitance to welcome him back with open arms. Supposedly, they've spoken on the phone and texted, but there appears to be some sort of impasse. And, now, it looks apparent that Davis would like to play elsewhere, having posted these tweets today...

Re: 2016 NFL Offseason Thread
As much as I hate to think about it and $750M of my tax money going for the stadium, this Las Vegas/Raiders thing might actually be happening.
This site is actually surprisingly on the ball for a rumors site (they've been right more often than not about not only the initial sale of the UFC, but most anything having to do with casino owners)
The TL;DR version is that the Fertittas with all of their UFC money buy a piece of the Raiders from Mark Davis, who can probably use the money. A 25 percent share at current valuations of NFL teams would be in the ballpark of a half a billion probably. Davis retains majority ownership, his remaining shares likely appreciate and he gets his new stadium for almost nothing (the Fertittas and Davis would probably split the team money necessary for the costs).
They have the perfect location for the stadium, already own the land and can help grease the wheels to get the LVVCA (convention authority, who really runs the Strip) to stand down on protesting the room tax. It's kinda scary how much sense it makes.
Have to say the location IS perfect. Adjacent to the Strip, but not in the flight path for McCarran or butting up to UNLV. Could build pedestrian bridges over I-15 to connect the Strip and the stadium land. Lots of space for parking onsite and on the Strip.

If it comes to pass, I wonder how much that might negatively affect demand for hockey tickets.

Much better location than the East Tropicana site. As long as they don't tear down the In 'N Out.

Re: 2016 NFL Offseason Thread
Mark Davis is no dummy. Raiders had people in Reno yesterday to "scout" sites for training camp if they move to Las Vegas.
Reason why is the public money would have to be approved by the state legislature which has plenty of representation in northern Nevada*, so this is a sop to them to show that it will benefit northern Nevada as well.
*Like many states including California, Nevada is really "two states" and the constituencies have less to do about what is best for the state than what is best for northern Nevada or southern Nevada.

Can there be a worse spot in the west for an NFL training camp? August desert heat routinely in the 100s (but it's a dry heat!), at altitude, 4500 feet. Summer in Reno is no joke.

Cathy Lanier, DC Police Chief, quits to head up NFL security. She always did a good job in front of the media. She has a pretty cool back story. Can't imagine the B.S. she dealt with in DC Politics.

Has there ever been a year when a defending Super Bowl champion had such a shit quarterback situation? Not lately, anyway.
The Broncos' defense should still be stout, so they don't need a world-beater at QB. I thought Mark Sanchez would be a decent game manager while Paxton Lynch sat and learned. But, at least in two preseason games, Sanchez has been a turnover machine - the one thing they need him NOT to do. Lynch probably isn't ready, and Trevor Siemian might never be ready. Sheesh.
