I got lost in Bangor headed to my brother's wedding reception via a photo location by the river. I tried to follow the bride's parents, but they lost me at a light. I foolishly assumed I could still find the location on my own (pre cell phone era), but failed. Wandering around lost, it seemed like a big city to me. Decades later, the brides' family still thinks I'm a drunk. Not only did I miss the photo session, but then I walked into the reception holding a cup with vodka in it. Who does that? Not my father, the alcoholic. Just before we hit the reception entrance where the wedding party was gathered, he turned around and said "hold this for a minute." My side of the family thinks this is a pretty funny story. But I'm no doubt a marked man on the other side.

In my experience, logging and roofing are the most dangerous. I've seen some lost digits and deep cuts on the thigh as a result of the first profession. Snapping chains and heavy equipment are as dangerous as the more obvious risks of falling limbs and chain saws. And falls are mandatory for roofers. I had one, nailing plywood on the rafters in the rain. But it was just one story, and I was young. The boss said go back up or don't come back tomorrow. I went back up. Learned some tricks. But it's still scary to be on a roof with a real pitch. I'm not looking forward to doing it again next week to repair some problems on my roof.
