It certainly was. Looks like the Hawks got away with one on the no-call against Duncan Keith. There have to be a few Predators fans fuming that not only didn't they get the penalty shot, but then it was Keith who put them away.

I f***ing hate Joe Micheletti soooo much. I guess I have to hear his stupid nasally voice EVERY night now though since he's doing the non-Ranger games too.

The Caps fans are garbage. I could hear them fumbling for their car keys before the third period was five minutes in. They don't deserve the playoffs.

Lastly, Brock Nelson.

I don't think that it's ever been fashionable to be a Sedin fan, but yeah, I think it's pretty great that they've been able to do what they've done. They're twins who are really good, drafted by the same team because that team stacked draft picks, then had long, excellent careers together. That's remarkable, and I think that we take it for granted. It should be somebody's job to remind us sometimes. (Maybe that same person can remind us that Rafael Nadal isn't left-handed, which is another amazing thing that sports fans forget about.)

I love Subban and almost always hate Subban haters, but that was a dumbfuck play by Subban. Stone not being injured is more luck than any restrain on PK's part.

I want to like him because he is a tremendously skilled player but he also appears to be a total and complete shithead.

Any time you use the stick as a weapon it should be an automatic suspension. There's no place in the game for the bullshit. Also, to the people (Mike Milbury you shitfuck) saying Stone embellished, You take a two-handed ax chop to that sweet spot between where the glove stops and the elbow pad covers and see how you fare.

That might almost be worthy of adding to the wikipedia entry for the band. It would spruce up what is currently a pretty ugly write-up.

He's a pest and embellisher on the ice, which always looks worse when its an actual great player, but I don't think anything about him says shithead. Read a profile or two, if he were a white dude he'd be the exact type of player the NHL should market the shit out of. Actual PK Subban is a godsend to the league.

Is Subban still really reckless with his skate blades? That was a big thing a few years ago.

I want to like him, but I can't quite go there, even tho I typically like heels. I love watching him play, tho. That tying goal in Boston during the playoffs a few years ago was such a great moment.

I'd put Max Pacioretty in the same category. Love watching him play, but he occasionally does really stupid and dangerous things that make me question why I like him.
rass wrote:That might almost be worthy of adding to the wikipedia entry for the band. It would spruce up what is currently a pretty ugly write-up.
Thanks for pointing that out. Yikes. I had no idea. 'You'll never see Zwan. I'll never go anywhere near those people. Ever. I mean, I detest them. You can put that in capital letters. Bad people.' I love Billy Corgan the way I love Max Pacioretty.

I love the idea of Pacioretty a lot more than the actual player, so I think I agree. From a perception standpoint, that Chara hit has really help balance out what would be a burgeoning Doan-ish rep.

In the year or two after the Chara hit, I remember three really bad plays by Pacioretty. (One of them concussed Kris Letang.) It was disappointing because he, of all people, should understand the consequences of those hits.

I don't get why it matters that he is black but whatever. I think think he's an ass. That said, they're a dime a dozen. I think Daniel Carcillo is also a shithead, and he's on my favorite team.

To this point, I went to a Bruins-Habs game in Boston a few years ago and the crowd loudly booed Subban every single time he touched the puck. What percentage of the crowd would have even been able to recognize Subban quickly enough to start booing him if he were white? 20%? 25%? He was the only Habs player who got that treatment from Bruins fans, too.

I know that there's always a 'Boston is racist' subtext to these things, but I wouldn't read too much into it. Other players get the same treatment in various cities. Crosby in Philly, Ovechkin in Pittsburgh, etc. And Subban plays up the villain role. He brings it on himself, and he seems to relish it.

I suppose I just don't see why it is not in the best interest of the NHL to market him because he is black. Would that backfire somehow? Fewer returns than a white player? Is the general public so racist that marketing him would cause a stir? That people would much rather good for Thomas Plekanec?

I don't follow.

I think the reason Montreal fans are so upset at what they believe was embellishment by Stone, is because that they see it as the sole province of Max Pacioretty.

Seriously, I think Stone was not faking at the time of the hit. I do believe he was in serious pain. The fact that he re-joined the game later... well, he's an NHL hockey player and it's the playoffs. The arm could have been hanging off the elbow and he'd have tried to give it a go...

To that end, I love the characterization of injuries as "upper body" or "lower body" injuries in the playoffs. I'm waiting for some insane coaching staff to take it to its logical extreme and just characterize any injury to any player as a "body injury".

I think BSF just misread your "if he were a white dude he'd be the exact type of player the NHL should market the shit out of. Actual PK Subban is a godsend to the league." statement to mean that the NHL would market Subban more if he was white.

Mark Stone has a broken wrist. (The Senators are calling it a microfracture.) 'His availability for the series is unknown,' according to the team. And no supplemental discipline for Subban. This sucks. Tomorrow's game is going to be, um, interesting.

And hockey fans are still saying that Stone (and the Sens) are faking it.

I know hockey fans take pride into thinking hockey is a tough sport but often take it too far.

Yes, he chuckled. Can't find that interview.
In Flames video, rookie Sam Bennett also says it at the end of his scrum
http://video.flames.nhl.com/videocenter/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

And some other Flames have echoed it in this morning's practice. I think it'll become a running gag!

During the season the Flames broke it up into 7 game segments and won 9 out of 11 of them.
Treat the season like the playoffs and the playoffs like the season, that would be such a Flames thing to do.

CNBC, huh?

My wife got home about an hour later than expected, so I started watching the Pens game 1.5 hours in instead of 1/2 an hour. She was out to dinner with my youngest, at a place where the game would definitely be on, and the kid trolled me when she got home by insisting I would REALLY want to watch the game. 28 seconds in happens, so I then keep checking the timer on the DVR until 1.5 hours in when I finally knew she was either full of shit, confused or fucking with me.
