That was a Browns-level loss.

Re: MLB Postseason 2022
Wait a damn second here. Yadi is a top catcher and I’m on his side for Cooperstown, especially since catchers are relatively underrepresented. But this first-ballot talk has got to stop.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.
Re: MLB Postseason 2022
The Molina shit is dumb. If you want to say you believe he’s the best defensive C of an era and that’s enough to cover for a mediocre bat, whatever, but in that world guys like Andruw and Rolen would have to be near unanimous selections.
Re: MLB Postseason 2022
Harper was safe, but you can't give up outs on the basepaths in the postseason. Especially whatever that debacle was at the end of the inning.
How do you all get your death notices since I left?

Re: MLB Postseason 2022
C'mon now, Yadi was a full 0.5 WAR better than Jason Kendall!
He basically had two really great seasons, and then a few pretty good ones. Even after those two great seasons, though, his career OPS+ never even reached 100.
He was good defensively and he played a long time and the Cards were really good during his career (only one losing season, and that was 78-84). If that's good enough for the Hall, then every Yankee who has played in the last 100 years has a claim.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

If you think they aren’t putting at least 2/3 of their dudes in at the same time you’re nuts! I wager it’s Molina an pujols and wainwright misses.

Re: MLB Postseason 2022
Pujols is probably the closest to missing out of the three because of the whispers.
Re: MLB Postseason 2022
The quantification attempt to justify a player like Yadier Molina getting into the Hall was done by Bill James, and his Hall of Fame Monitor. Without it, he falls way, way short. With it, he's got a puncher's chance.Reaper wrote: ↑Sun Oct 09, 2022 2:29 pmYadier Molina is not a Hall of Famer. Salvador Perez has just as good an argument for the HoF as Molina and I don't think there are many Royals fans who are convinced he's a Hall of Famer

Me: hearing that Musgrove's spin rate was up last night - "huh"
Also me: I wonder how they know anyone's spin rate.
Also also me: Must be someone with replay on SUPER DUPER SLOW MO counting the times the ball goes over.
Also also also me: but how can they count that - like, how to they know it has done a revolution

I assume it has something similar to automated golf trainers. Somewhere there is a camera(S) that tracks the movement in multiple planes.tennbengal wrote: ↑Mon Oct 10, 2022 8:26 am Me: hearing that Musgrove's spin rate was up last night - "huh"

The dodgers are averaging 91.5 wins per season over the past four years. That includes a 43-win 2020 season.

Was at Gonzaga Parents Weekend, and at the "Kraziness in the Kennel" (Gonzaga's version of midnight madness) during the end of the game. Everyone around us was watching the M's game on their phones and went crazy at the end. Bananas!

i only told her well-afterwards as we were somewhere in Hamilton that I'm now 0-5 lifetime in person at MLB postseason games in terms of who i was rooting for and 4 of those were season-enders.
That comment was met with - frankly - rudeness. hm.

To be fair you have to expect the worst in the playoffs when the opponents are the Royals, Guardians, Rays, and Mariners.

Re: MLB Postseason 2022
Seeing Max Fried and Verlander get rocked after a long rest makes me relieved that the Yankees don’t have a comparable ace.
Re: MLB Postseason 2022
It looks like all 4 WC winners opted to roll the dice on stealing game 1 against a rusty opponent, then pitch their ace in game 2 with the opportunity available to pitch game 5 on short rest. That is looking like a pretty solid strategy.Rex wrote: ↑Thu Oct 06, 2022 9:02 am I don't hate the best of 3 wild card, but wasn't one of the points of the previous format to force a team out of its preferred pitching rotation? Now, you can pitch your ace in Game 1 of both the WC and the DS with 3 days rest. I know starting pitching isn't what it used to be but that still feels important.
Anyway, I'll go with Astros over Cardinals because everyone deserves that.
