Well, it was more a comment on that fact that it wouldn't even have been possible for something like at least 40+ years. (There were three in the old Northeast Division for quite a few years (Toronto, Boston, Montreal) and three in the old Central/Norris Division for years before that (Chicago, Detroit, Toronto), but never four.

Maxim Lapierre continues to be a cheap-shotting jerk.

And then Lapierre went and turtled between two refs while two guys who had nothing to do with any of this, Matt Pelech and Ryan Reaves, end up in a scrap. Just another night in the NHL.

Has there been a decision or are they waiting for the extent of Boyle's injury?

I would give him 20 games.

Nice of the Red Wings to welcome Roy back to the NHL with his first coaching loss. Wonder if there is any of the old rivalry still floating around, as McLeod got a misconduct in the first for the 'Lanche and Miller and Sarich fought in the second.

Lapierre gets 5 games.

They probably wanted to give him more but he's not a repeat offender.

At least not a convicted repeat offender.

believe it or not, the repeat offender rule only goes back 18 months.
Lapierre was suspended 4 games in 2009.

Yep. That's 18 months per individual. So if you, say, ended someone's career 18 months and one day ago, you're clear. Very NHL.

So, tonight, Penguins vs. Avs, and Sharks vs. Red Wings. Lots of offense, right? Grand total of one goal in regulation and OT among those four teams tonight. wow.

Since SJ is in the Bestern Conference and Detroit in the Leastern I'll take a point out of that game now.

Heading to NY this Friday to catch the Rangers home opener against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday. Wtf do I do until then? Haven't been to New York since I was ten. Staying at my friends place on times square if that means anything. What are the best sports bars around there? I'm gonna want to watch some Saturday night hockey and football all day sunday.

I watched most of the Avs-Pens game. Giguere was an absolute wall. I don't think many teams would've beaten him the way he was playing last night.

I think since he was playing in Pittsburgh he decided to pull a Dock Ellis. Ridiculous.

Bad fucking hit by John Scott on Loui Erikkson in the Bruins/Sabres game. I don't follow what the norms are for suspensions, but I'd give him 5-10 games.

It doesn't look like the Hawks are resting on their laurels too badly yet. Through 9 games, they have only been trailing for a grand total of 4 minutes and 57 seconds.

Their one regulation loss came on a goal scored with 0:22 on the clock.

In case anyone was wondering, the Sharks don't have that issue with Tomas Hertl, because he never played juniors. He came straight outta Czech Republic.

Diving days are over for the Canucks

So says Torts:
"I know the reputation from the outside looking in, when I wasn't coaching here, everybody outside thought Vancouver dove and did some whining," Tortorella said. "Our team is not going to dive. Our team has already been talked to. We're not going to dive. I don't think there is much whining going on either."

I'll believe it when I see it. Torts has always been one to play the officials like that. But at least he's saying something. Vigneault was never going to do anything to discourage the shameless antics.

ETA: By the way, this was Tuesday night:

http://vansunsportsblogs.com/2013/10/24 ... sler-dove/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You can always spot a dive (in this case Kesler pretending to take a head shot) when none of the Canucks go after anyone from the other team. Yet, after a real head shot hit? You see the gloves dropping all over the place. But you can't really go try to fight someone because one of your chicks took a flop.

But it was an OT loss, and they were lucky to get the point given TB gave up a horrible own goal, so not the worst jinx ever?

That's probably pretty popular out on the Northern end of LI. Or many of those who flock there for the summer, at least.

The Pens AHL backup has looked better tonight than he did in his first game. The Isles announcers seem convinced that Fleury either begged out of the start or the Pens are protecting him.
