I think what's maybe being lost here is the era of really bad hooliganism that almost fucked English football out of existence in the 70s and 80s. Calling the shit that went down on Sunday an "electric atmosphere" with people crashing the gates is, frankly, pretty ridiculous.

Crashing the gates without tickets is what brought about Hillsborough. Not trying to be melodramatic, but that's the recent history these scenes are conjuring.

Yeah. I'm sure plenty of history I'm unaware of. But that game gave us probably the best shootout I've seen. Some of that drama was fans going insane first goal and then throughout the shootout. Those idiots were the guys the camera sought out. And a packed overloaded stadium is a great visual. Really is an electric feeling to be part of. Yes that is til someone gets killed.

I don't think you're being melodramatic. Hillsborough and Heysel were horrifying. It should be a long, long time before the English FA gets to host a major event again.
