Sometimes I end up going down rabbit holes in Wikipedia and end up reading about things that I really have no interest in. But you learn some odd things that way. For instance, 1947 Chicago Cardinals halfback Elmer Angsman was described thusly: “He was a straight ahead north and south runner who would just as soon leave cleat marks on your balls as run around you."

Saw this quote today in Facebook, by the legendary Lemmy (of Motörhead). It piqued my interest because it goes against the grain of what most people understand regarding the Beatles and the Stones.
Lemmy Kilmister wrote:“The Beatles were hard men too. Brian Epstein cleaned them up for mass consumption, but they were anything but sissies. They were from Liverpool, which is like Hamburg or Norfolk, Virginia a hard, sea-farin town, all these dockers and sailors around all the time who would beat the piss out of you if you so much as winked at them. Ringo is from the Dingle, which is like the fucking Bronx.
The Rolling Stones were the mummys boys they were all college students from the outskirts of London. They went to starve in London, but it was by choice, to give themselves some sort of aura of disrespectability. I did like the Stones, but they were never anywhere near the Beatles not for humour, not for originality, not for songs, not for presentation. All they had was Mick Jagger dancing about. Fair enough, the Stones made great records, but they were always shit on stage, whereas the Beatles were the gear.”

Re: Random Thoughts About Thoughts Random
I think an underrated aspect of the relative "toughness" of British bands vs. US in general in that era is the difference in growing up in a country that was almost completely destroyed by World War II (and these kids grew up in that harsh environment) vs a country that was experiencing an all-time record economic boom, mostly because it was one of the only countries left undamaged in some way.

Re: Random Thoughts About Thoughts Random
I gotta say, now that the Beach Boys seem to have disappeared, the Stones are the longest surviving oldies band in the world.
They have released nothing in the last 30+ years that anyone wants to hear.

I just unfollowed Geoffrey Zakarian on twitter because he's playing in the LIV pro am. He's one of the weakest iron chefs anyway. I'll take Bobby Flay, Alex Guarnaschelli and Morimoto every day and twice on sundays.

Oh I'm not even going to look into that. It was softball related so a little pull or strain is more likely, right?

When the panic attacks come in waves so frequently that your chest hurts, that's probably a good thing, right?

When I had a hernia (30+ years ago), I initially thought I had pulled a groin muscle.
And no talk of a groin injury is complete without this classic:

Re: Random Thoughts About Thoughts Random
Sorry you're going through that, TB. I haven't had too many lately, but there was a time in March where I was having them all the time, especially while driving. I was having one on the drive into work and felt a weird sharp pain in the side of my head that sent it into overdrive. I was at a stoplight and realized it was where the hospital I was born in used to be before they tore it down. That sent me spiraling thinking I was about to die from an aneurism yards away from where I was born.

You just never know what's going to trigger one. I had one after waking from a dream about my own death.Giff wrote: ↑Thu Aug 11, 2022 11:20 am Sorry you're going through that, TB. The underlying anxieties can often be figured out (but definitely not while having an attack)

Random thought: was this too sarcastic?
(Background - fighting again w/ accounting folks re: checks for experts - this check is needed so I can get an expert to trial next month - it's his literal travel and trial appearance fee)
Email from accounting after I submitted the invoice (and I heard/read this as having a rather aggressive tone):

My response earlier (while still feeling like a bldg is sitting on my chest):Can someone please explain Goldbergs invoice 209 compared to the “reason” on the check request?
Are we paying for a balance from retainer 3 in the amount of 1.55 hours and retainer #4 (which covers travel to and from Baltimore) at 18.45 hours? If so is this basically travel time? Total is 20 hours at $425.00 = $8500.00
Or for what is in the “reason” section of the front of the check request?
He’s coming to trial. That is his cost to come to trial. If we don’t pay it, we don’t have an expert and we lose. All experts charge to come to trial. Trial is set to begin on Sept. 12. He testifies Sept. 14. If we don’t pay it, he won’t be there and that will make for a shorter trial I suppose.

Yeah, no. No coding. Every chance accounting gets they question check requests for experts. Which, in my area of practice is literally the lifeblood of cases. Plaintiffs med mal is expert intensive by definition. She was mad about the bill being for travel. Which..it has to be - if I want him at trial. It's like getting mad at the sun rising.
