Good 5 minutes there going from “best closer in the game” to “doesn’t pitch more than one inning” to giving up the go-ahead HR

Still probably the greatest sports moment I've ever witnessed live. Hard to believe it's been 15 years.

Ah, which means we're 15 years and one week past this game where a group of us were watching, everyone was rooting against the Yankees so one guy's girlfriend said she'd root with me until she saw the pitching matchups and said "oh, nevermind, I can't root against Jeremy".

Did anyone here mention that that ball was hit so high it was either a home run or gonna clang off the wall so Judge should have been hotfooting it like crazy off first? It seemed to me like he never got past a jog til it hit the wall. Not only that his turn around second was frigging awful. WHich of course the third base coach should have noticed and held him, but I put a bit on Judge, even if the fatal fault comes from nevin.

Any of that is possible, but I'd bet its more "Judge is a professional and knows a ball off the monster doesn't score a runner from 1B with one out". Which I guess doesn't excuse him, but it might explain it?

Speaking of other things, twitter seems to be uniting behind hating the Dodgers going with an other-handed opener when they have a starter lined up, but I kinda love it. Push SF to either "tank" the 1st inning, adjust their lineup away from optimum or burn some of their bench.

Not sure how Wade/Flores was a better choice than Slater/Wade or Wade/Duggar.
And then how do you make that call to end a team's season? That is just horrible.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse check-swing call than that one. It wasn’t even judging the line, his wrists never even came close to breaking.

(Bellinger remains entertaining. Never once gives the expected answer or enthusiasm level, at all times seems like he’s not the one who wants to walk away from the conversation.)

i laughed

(agreed. did not need extra innings last night)

((but even in a very pro-Dodgers household, that was a sad ending to a classic game.))

When that happened, I truly just turned the TV off immediately and went to sleep. I knew it was questionable. Still slept well.

It’s always tough to lose such a close one in the playoffs. Especially to your hated rival. But, as the great philosopher Tony Soprano used to say, “Whaddya gonna do?”

Fox Box is in a weird corner and huge and I’m pretty sure it expanded to show a test pattern during Martinez’s GS.

This feels like an insane pitching change both from a game management and a “this dude looks / is doing great” standpoint.

Ball was smoked. Not sure there was enough time to get your body in front of it. Lucky it didn't hit Jansen in the head.

My thought was that Jansen screened his view, and he didn't see the ball until it was almost on top of him.

Just to be clear, this was about Heredia playing himself in-between on Taylor's line drive, not the game winner.

"The hardest part of being a defensive replacement is not looking like Mister D who realizes with three steps to go he's not getting there and he's definitely not diving so if this short-hop scoop fails lets hope Kevin is hustling to back him up or else that's 4 bases."

Why don’t National League teams bat their pitcher third on the road, and just use a pinch hitter in the first inning? You could just put the previous day’s starter in the lineup card that you exchange before the game. Is there a rule against that?

EDIT: i mean on the road. The one where you bat first.
