Pick up my daughter from Dance and the Caps are up 3-0. But NJ just put 4 goals in under 6 minutes.
Then the Caps flipped that shit again.

Not a good sign that Winnipeg is having trouble coming close to filling the smallest (real) arena in the league.

They’re not at risk of going anywhere any time soon but they don’t have a lot of lost revenue they can play with in such a small market.

Joe Thornton officially retires. Maybe the best NHL player to never win a Stanley Cup or certainly a close second to Marcel Dionne.

At the time of his retirement, Thornton was the last active player in any of the major North American professional sports leagues to have played in the 1990s, and the last active NHL player to have played in an NHL game against Wayne Gretzky & the last active athlete born in the 1970’s.

Wow, the Flames are an absolutely shitty team right up against the cap. No hope for at least 5 more years.

The whole Pacific except for VGK looks like a dumpster fire. LA is OK and I’m not sold on Vancouver yet but the rest? Yuck.

No GM can fix this. Conroy's hands are tied.

oh yeah, he got promoted to Toronto!

what worries me the most is no mater how bad Flames teams have been in the past, and 3/4 of them are bad over their history, they always played hard. This team shows no effort, soft as butter, and doesn't really hate losing. Never seen a Calgary team pushed around like this.

There another sport where the officials can so directly turn a 3-1 lead into a 2-2 tie? Not that I’m complaining. Tonight. Right now.

First in person game of the season for me tonight. Took the oldest. Nice to get one on one time with him.

Bolts pushed hard after mostly getting outplayed through the first two periods. Kucherov played a heck of a game and had very little to show for it on the score sheet. Also, I enjoyed Gourde playing for my team much more than against.

VGK guarantee a loser point tonight against Montreal. The last time they lost in regulation at home to a non-division opponent? January 19, 2023 against Detroit.

Paul Statsny officially retires as well. One of my favorite former Golden Knights. Still lives in Summerlin by the Triple AAA ballpark.

If someone were to do the Vegas version of Top 100 Players, I think Stastny’s definitely in.

Statsny had an interesting career. I always followed him because he was a Univ. of Denver product. Came up as a first-line scorer on some bad Avalanche teams, and as he go older he successfully transitioned to being a dependable checker/defender/secondary scorer.

Ottawa loses a 1st rounder (their choice between 2024-2026) for not disclosing Dadonov's 10 team NTC to Vegas. On one hand, that's shady (or sloppy) as hell but, on the other, why isn't there some easily accessed central database for all player contracts?

Agreed on both hands, and it also seems especially harsh on a new owner.

Shouldn't have bought the Senators.

July 2021 - NHL says nothing after the first trade of Dadonov
March 2022 - All reports are that Ottawa has been cleared of any discipline after the next trade is voided
September 2023 - New Senators ownership group
October 2023 (18 months later) - Haha just kidding you have to give up a first round pick

Someone in the new ownership group pissed off someone in the NHL.

Probably closer to "the league didn't want to do anything at all to compromise their latest sales price".

Dorion didn't last the day.

Flames called up Zary and hey, they actually had energy. Huberdeau benched the last 5 minutes of a 1 goal game was telling.

I knew the Sharks would be bad this season. Maybe even worst in the league bad. But, it’s even worse than that. Epically, maybe even historically bad. And, nobody assesses a train wreck better than Ray Ratto. Link

You just wait when the intentionally bad Sharks play the unintentionally bad Flames.

Seems weird to fail for Celebrini though. Both teams really should have done this a year earlier.

San Jose is so bad you kind of want to remind them you don’t get that many more ping pong balls for being that bad.

Despite being in their 7th year, VGK have still never lost in regulation at three divisional opponents - Seattle, San Jose and Vancouver.

On pace to lose a second straight game by 9 goals which seems…sub-optimal?

Jesus I was just joking (it was 4-0 at the time) but they gave up a 10-spot again.

Like how you can't let Ovechkin set up in his office, you'd think teams wouldn't leave Kreider untouched in front on the PP, even if it means other guys getting more room than they should. Just insanely good hands.
