Is Shields costing himself money this postseason or will it not matter? The FA SP market looks surpringly deep this year too.

Flying out to SF in the AM. Bronto, text/call me when you get there, I'll be at the stadium early Friday.

Bumgarner doesn't get to hit? Disadvantage.

ETA: and don't hold this against the Giants fan base. Dude isn't even the best athlete from his high school in SF suburb (Lynn Swann, Barry Bonds):

I worry about Matthew McConaughey driving that Lincoln. By the sound of his voice, he sounds pretty stoned.

Wait, I'm glancing at baseball reference, Bruce Chen had seven starts this year for the Royals? Or to rephrase, a team in the world series in2014 started Bruce Chen seventimes?

My long and extensive record of recent world series well documents i never count nuttin. It was a long 52 years, an unforgettable interval.

ETA: shit, there was a 5-0 lead in 2002, which will take about ten more championships before I could possibly forget. russ Ortiz, Dusty baker, Scott Spezio, they still haunt my dreams and consciousness.

""Big Game"" James is responsible for 15 of the 31 runs the Royals have allowed this postseason.

I have not once watched that guy pitch and thought he was very much above average, let alone an ace, despite the conventions that he must be their ace.

The Royals' run had made me consider actively watching the series for the first time in years, but the Fox broadcast keeps me away. From the tweets I'm seeing, Harold Reynolds is possibly making people miss Tim McCarver.

Also:

1. I'm rooting for the Royals to win, but if that happens I'm afraid I'll have to hide in a bunker for a couple months to avoid all the old prick sportswriters' columns about how Ned Yost "proved" all the sabermetrics people were wrong.

2. So I've never heard this "Royals" song, but I guess I should give it a listen because due its unexpected cross-cultural relevance (or how to pronounce that girl's name--is the "e" silent or not)?

Song has nothing to do with George Brett or the fine ballclub from Kansas City.

He's solid and he usually throws a ton of innings. If he's your 2, that's fine and if he's your 3 that's really good.

I could have been more specific, but as far as the content of the song, it has nothing to do with George Brett and the fine ballclub from Kansas City. I made a generalization that he already knew about the loose connection. My bad.

The excuse machine is already in full gear, with Schilling saying that the first two pitches being called balls screwed MUST WIN JIM and Yost Beef talking about the 5 day layoff. The Giants meanwhile are still sharp, having only had a 4 day layoff.

I don't get why the layoff didn't affect the bullpen as much. They only gave up 2 over their 6 innings.

the view of what the outside hears sometimes is fascinating. The layoff did not approach my mind at all to talk about last night, nor did it come out of a Royals player's mouth that I heard -- and I was in the midst of about five or six scrums. Nor did I hear any questions about being off for so many days (that I remember).

I think 10 McCarvers is better than one Harold Reynolds at this point.
