I could attend the Sharks/Canucks game on cinco de mayo, as the the tickets are available to me in our season ticket group. But, not if I want to avoid sleeping on the couch. As, that is my wife's birthday.

The second of two first communion parties we'll be attending this weekend is on Sunday. It's for my wife's cousin's daughter, and the host most likely would love to leave the TV on for me (unless the Yanks are playing that afternoon), but I have to see what time everything is scheduled to start and end to see if I can catch the whole game or not or if I need to DVR it at home which presents a whole other set of issues, especially for game that early in the day since I probably wouldn't get a chance to sit down and watch until after the kids go to bed after 8PM or so. Lame.

Pens in 5
NYR in 7
BOS in 5 though it will like the old Habs-Nordiques in terms of PIM
Sens in 6 My Sens fate rests on which Carey Price we see...good Carey means Habs in 5, Bad Carey means Sens advance.

Pens over Sens in 5
Bos over NYR in 6

Pens over Bos in 6

The West is going to be such a cluster-fuck I can't even come up with a guess on the Cup.

Nervous. Good nervous.

No word on Crosby, though he was supposed to see the doc yesterday afternoon. Some sort of word will probably leak out after today's practice/skate.

Crosby worked out by himself this morning and is skating with the team. However, he's with the likely-to-be-scratches crew and not on what one would assume to be his regular line.

did one of you Pittsburgh guys make the avatar bet with Z-man? If he wins, I could just see a photoshop of a puck going between Fleury's legs on Rass's new avatar.

Or the Gorton's fishstick man on Salma!

I knew I would be watching the Isles/Pens game time-shifted, and set the DVR to record the game on NBCSN not knowing it would be blacked out because it was being shown locally on MSG+. Luckily, DirecTV realized that, changed the channel also made sure the DVR picked up the right broadcast, too. Nice.

Well, it got ugly early and didn't stop. Isles just didn't play at the level they've been playing for the last month. Lost every race to the puck, and skated in quicksand all night, and got their first taste of the hit parade that is the playoffs (though Matt Martin was right in his element, leading both teams in hits)

Hoping Friday night we see the full 20 man Isles come to play.

Scored 2 tix for Sundays game for J and myself. First playoff game for the both of us, and the mausoleum is going to be rocking. Seeing the excitement in her eyes when I told her was worth every penny.

They were advertising tickets for game 3 during last night's broadcast, so perhaps "bought" would be more appropriate than "scored"?

The start time sucks as far as my Sunday obligations go, but it's perfect for a day at the game with the kid. Have fun.

The stat I heard last night about the Penguins playing 70 playoff games between the Islanders last game and yesterday was pretty amazing.

This is so amazing, I'm putting it in both the Eastern Conference and Western Conference NHL playoff threads.

I don't know who was selling them, because 4 days ago there was literally 1 ticket available through ticketmaster, and it's now sold out. Tickets are available through stubhub, et al... , which is where I got mine. Since those are secondary scalpers markets, and I paid well over face value, I feel 'scored' is applicable.

The start time is early even by regular standards. Normally a matinee game is 1 or 3 pm. But I don't care. Just have to plan around the Long Island marathon which is scheduled for the same day, and uses some of the roads around the Coli.

Montreal puts 50 shots on goal, only score 2, give up a 3rd period lead, and lose 4-2.

Very much cheering for Montreal but that friggin' PK Subban drives me nuts. The occasional flash of decent play but then giveaways, giveaways, giveaways, diving, diving, diving, dirty play here, dirtier play there, out of position more often than in position, bad decision after bad decision after bad decision. Ugh. He just kills that team.

Assuming he can make it the next 8 hours without hurting himself, Crosby will be in the line up tonight.

Yeah but the officials did a nice job calling it a bit tighter than you would expect in a playoff game. The Rangers just did not take advantage of the powerplay. 5 v. 3 and missing the goal over and over again really cost them.

Fehr's interference was strange. Lose puck in front of the net and he crushed the Ranger in front of the net.

Also surprised Oleksy did not pick up a star. Blocks one off the face (like how he described himself as a bleeder) and the nice assist and then after the game was hanging out with caps fans at the Redline (gastro pub acrosse from the verizon center).

Talking about Senators coach Paul Maclean.

We have a new (and unexpected) clubhouse leader for "crazy shit is gonna happen in 3+ goal game" series.

The announcer crew was washing Oleksy's balls, if that makes you feel any better. He had a great game, no question.

I just went back and watched that Fehr hit. CSN had a few from behind the net that showed it was just bad luck for Fehr, the guy he cleared out looked like he was about to get to the puck, but then it deflects away from that man and when Fehr hit him the puck was clear on the other side of the crease. It was very bang-bang. The other thing is that, as you know, when a guy doesn't have his stick the ref is often watching that much closer, knowing the guy is gonna do something out of the norm.

If I were Ottawa I'd just run the small Habs forwards into oblivion and dare the league to take more action since that 2 game suspension was pretty ridiculous.

it's starling to realize that the islanders are in a tie for the third longest consecutive league championship streak of any of the american "big 4" sports franchises.

Okay. I'll bite.

Most consecutive SuperBowls is 2, right? So that's out. No idea what the longest streak of winning the old version of the NFL is.
Most consecutive NBA championships is 8 or 9 by the Celtics. So that's gotta be first overall.
Stanley Cup. Habs 5.
World Series. Yankees 5 (under Casey). And the Yankees also won 4 in a row at least once (once in the 30s for sure).

Assuming the 10-straight (or so) Stanley Cups by the original Ottawa Senators, the 6-straight by the Montreal Wanderers and the 5-straight by the Montreal Victorias don't count (all pre-NHL).

So let's see . . . the Islanders are tied at 4 with the team that won the four straight years before they did (Montreal), the late 30s Yankees and ??? Anyone else? Maybe a Lakers team from the 50s or someone? Any original pre-SB NFL team win 4 in a row?

And for the fucking game...

I think the Isles second goal was pretty inexcusable. And I love MAF.

Two of the other three goals came off lucky/unlucky bounces off the boards behind Fleury, but I'll split the difference and say he should have had one of those (especially the fourth goal overall). Great second and third period by NYI, especially Nabokov.

I said American franchises. Celts had 8, yanks had 5, and another streak at 4. Isles with 4.
