And while I teach at the Post Secondary level, there is still fear of blowback. Student in the prerequisite course to the one I teach at a local college was nailed plagiarizing an entire script last year. We caught her dead to rights and the Profs wanted an example set - suspension and a zero with a note on her transcripts (we were really pissed as she lied repeatedly about it). The Dean was reluctant and as a result our supervisor suggested that she get a zero just on the assignment plus a warning.

It took some pushback from us to get her to agree to a zero on the course. Good news is that the student dropped out of school soon afterwards. Shocking thing was that she already had a B.A. and was at the college to train for work in TV.

And the better news is that we now have a poster child for what will happen if students are caught cheating.
She already had a degree, and was taking the course to better herself. What is the point of paying to take a course and then plagiarize? Why bother, just drop the course or don't write the script and audit the course.
The truly bizarre thing is that the script was for a public service announcement of no more than a minute. On ANY cause - real or fake (even a joke cause) - that they wanted.

Her script was great, perfect in fact in terms of being a creative approach to stopping drunk driving. So perfect that the Prof sent it to me and asked what I thought. I did a search on YoTube and the second video on the first page was a British anti-drunk driving PSA that followed" her script. All she changed was the word "pounds" to "dollars."

The assignment could have taken an hour or two to do properly.

The mind reels.
People just dick around. She saved an hour or two to do what? probably watch some reality show of text her friends.

When I was in school I was guilty of it, I procrastinated. I don't know why I do it because I'm just wasting time. End up handing in a half-assed paper last minute when I had ages to do it. What was I really doing? Probably drinking.

An example is I always here people say, if only I knew at 20 what I know at 30. I'd start an internet business or start blogging and make big bucks. No you wouldn't, you're be 20 a dicking around.

I like PDX's answer.

When I was a kid I liked Just What I Needed, but Circuit City ruined that.

First answer that popped in my head though was Drive.

I'll go with Let's Go as I heard it for the first time in years recently in the car and just had to crank it up and sing along.

Yeah, I think it's between Just What I Needed, Drive, and Best Friend's Girl. Drive would probably sound best on piano, right?

Just What I Needed and Best Friend's Girl were the other two that I knew, but I thought those were so obvious that they'd be shouted down.

Drive has the most plays on Spotify. I loved Magic as a kid. Let's Go and Just What I Needed are great too.

I'm just messing around. I have no idea what is and isn't considered hipster anymore. I know that's the song from Fast Times.

Not Safe Rules:

Brush--I met her years ago, when dating the actress I mentioned in the TV thread. My girlfriend and her husband, Kevin Kline, were in a play together. Now she owns a boutique around the corner from me, I run into her occasionally, but always think of that scene.

40 degrees and raining hard in Toronto. Tonight there may be snow.

Think there'll be a lot of extra candy kicking around here tomorrow.

I feel this way about people who refer to Thanksgiving as "Turkey Day" and then after calling it that, they pile on by saying "Gobble Gobble." Crotch pain isn't enough. I want to murder them.

That's pretty sick when you stop and think about it. Tons of people referring to a holiday by the name of the thing we kill in celebration of it?

Anyway, Happy Veterans Day!
