Back again for 2024, its the (10th?) Swamp NHL Playoff Challenge!

Rules:

- Players are ranked by regular-season Points Per Game, then divided into 10 groups. Each group has a different "multiplier" to alter the value of the goals and assists those players score in the playoffs. This levels the playing field between the very best players (group 1) through to the depth guys (group 10).
-For example: Connor McDavid (group 1) gets 1 point per goal/assist, while Brent Burns (group 10) earns 2.8 points per goal/assist.

- There is also a TEAM group where you select 2 teams, which also earn points (3 for a win, -1 for a loss)

- Overtime goals are worth double points

- Between round 2 and 3, you can drop up to 2 eliminated players for 2 new ones. (you keep your dropped player's points, and only add points going forward from the new player).

It hasn't been as bad lately but for a while it felt like every team was changing their starter after every loss, and it was always messing up (my) fantasy playoff teams, so that's why I just made the "team" pick the defacto goalie.

I feel like it was always the Penguins that were the worst for that, so maybe that's why it doesn't seem to be a think much anymore

That's what pays off in the end!

I've always wanted to go back and do some analysis of which players end up being the most valuable....

Here's how the final four teams from last year sorted out:









My guess is it will generally shake out:
2.x group players leading the way
1.x group players in the middle
2.x group players who didn't perform

and the key to success, other than getting the right teams winning, is picking the right 2.x players.

I just picked the two teams I don't want to win the most, that way if they win, at least it'll give me a better chance of winning this very important game.

Yeah, thanks for putting this together, Trav. It's definitely a highlight of the spring for me.

Actually, watching the Rangers-Caps game I realize that this game has already surpassed any schadenfraudian motivation I may hold in terms of rooting interests, and I'm kind of digging the long-haired, Muslim fellow, too.

Lafreniere - 2 x 2.6 = 5.2
Hedman - 2 x 1.4 = 2.8
Tarasenko - 2 x 2.4 = 4.8
Connor - 1 x 1.6 = 1.6
Rangers - W = 3
Total = 21
