Fox Sports One
Commercials kinda lift me out the chair with the montage of the "number one" finger. The soccer clips and music are pretty tremendous too. Ditto the new underarmour and dicks football commercials. Dicks in particular. Kind of an artistry to pre-snap football and captures it well. Never really see that angle in a game.
Or maybe im just really ready for football to start up again.

In Canada (for the Canucks on board), the "Speed" channel is rebranding as Fox Sports 1. So if you get Speed, you get FS1.

Thanks, Brian. And Fox Sports 2 is (at least initially) taking over the Fuel-TV channel. I don't even think that is available in Canada. At least Shaw doesn't carry it. Back in 2011, the CRTC actually prohibited it from airing in Canada.
Wakeboarding, snowboarding . . . the only sport using the word "boarding" that Canadians care about is hockey. Hopefully when Fuel becomes FS2 the channel will become available. FS2 is supposedly UEFA, MLB, NASCAR, MMA and such. They'll still have to go through the arduous application process with the CRTC. Wouldn't wish that on anyone.

Not as simple as that. Because of those new carriage agreements, Directv, Time Warner and Dish haven't agreed to new FS1 deals. I know that a lot of it is still posturing at this point, but I'm going to be pissed (given that I have to have it for work purposes on the day of launch) if there's nothing worked out. I believe it's a subscriber increase to $0.80 from $0.32.brian wrote:...And if you don't get Speed there's a decent chance you'll get FS1 anyway because Fox is (understandably) working out new carriage agreements.Scottie wrote:In Canada (for the Canucks on board), the "Speed" channel is rebranding as Fox Sports 1. And I'll be switching to Uverse the next day.

Not an MMA guy, but apparently FS1 putting out quite the fight card on the first day of operations..... Got some people squawking to see it.Brontoburglar wrote:Not as simple as that. Still no agreements with any of the outstanding carriers.
Trying to figure out how long I wait this out.

Re: Fox Sports One
As of August 2013, Fox had not yet reached deals with three of the United States' four largest television providers (including Time Warner Cable, Dish Network and DirecTV) to carry the network. Fox has reportedly demanded considerably higher carriage fees for FS1 than it did for Speed. If providers do not reach a deal to carry Fox Sports 1, Fox will reportedly continue to offer a version of Speed with limited programming on an interim basis until they reach a deal.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

You're going to switch companies due to a $0.48 increase? That dedicated to principle huh?Brontoburglar wrote:Not as simple as that. Re: Fox Sports One
Perhaps this should be its own thread, but here goes. I'm moving soon, and will likely not get TV service, only high speed internet. I should be able to get access to a bit of the online services for tablets and phones (WatchESPN, NBCSports app, etc.) through my Verizon password at work. I will be able to rely on iTunes and Netflix for shows. A few questions for you: 1) how quickly does iTunes make episodes available? Could I have watched Breaking Bad on Sunday night at 9? (not a huge deal) 2) How can I watch the Rays live while I'm in my MLB.tv blackout area? 3) Any suggestions for how to watch EPL? Was the Fox Soccer online app/access good? Any word on how NBC's EPL online experience will be? 4) Any suggestions from anyone who is doing this already?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Fox Sports One
I've gone without cable tv service for almost three months now. The kids can usually find something on netflix or hulu. And primetime stuff I can get over an HD antenna. But not having DVR does set me back a bit.
I think if I were going to start subscribing to my favorite shows to get them, my cost would go up instead of down, so if there were a bunch of them, I don't think I would be able to do without cable. However, joining amazon prime to get access to their streaming video might be a good workaround - especially if you have a tv that allows you to stream straight to it or a PS3 device(xbox probably has it as well) and Breaking Bad is already on there.
It may become more problematic this fall for college sports watching, however. Most of the early games are on ESPN networks (which I may have access to depending on the kindness of certain folks) or on Fox regionals, which I don't expect to have access to and will therefore have to watch at anothers house or at a bar somewhere. Which will of course have its own costs.
The more people that do this, the more cable providers will have to think about offering better customization to your accounts. I only need 20 channels or so.

Re: Fox Sports One
Live sports really is the big downfall for me. I had forgotten about an HD antenna. I'll have to pick one of those up. Oiler used to have his second computer set up as a DVR. I bet I can bribe him to show me how to do that, if I need to for major network stuff. Also, to be clear, I'm looking into all possible, legal ways to go without cable. I'm not saying I'm above other means, but I'd like to see what I can do (and how much it will cost) to avoid cable.

That looks intriguing. We've got Verizon now, and where we're moving only has the ability to get Bright House. I hate Bright House, even if it is only for my internet connection.Baloney wrote:This maybe of interest later this yeargovmentchedda wrote:Live sports really is the big downfall for me. We are stuck with Brighthouse too at the moment, but I'd drop them in a heartbeat given another choice.
