Re: Random Cartography
The comment about Canada being invaded three times and never declaring war was my favorite.

Awesome. We have like three Dunkinses here. And a hundred Starbucks.EdRomero wrote: ↑Tue Jun 09, 2020 8:41 am Found this doing research for work: http://archive.boston.com/yourtown/spec ... in_donuts/
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.
Re: Random Cartography
I don't understand the love for Dunkin's. Some of the sandwiches are palatable by fast-food standards, but the coffee is god awful.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Re: Random Cartography
The app is wonderful and their customer service is much better than Starbucks.
Re: Random Cartography
I think it is in MA because there's 75 other Dunkin's that you can hit up...we go to a DD every so often because the 5-year-old is addicted to chocolate doughnuts, but our local Dunks suuuuuucks.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
Re: Random Cartography
I generally don't like Dunkin (but can and will drink it if desperate, since they're everywhere in NJ - see above) but every so often during the Q I've run past one at just the right time and caught a whiff and couldn't help thinking it smelled great.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.
Re: Random Cartography
Same. At the in-laws we'll drive 10-15 minutes for coffee (depending on which day of the week it is) rather than drink the Dunkin 2 minutes away. Just terrible, terrible coffee.

Re: Random Cartography
Anyone who says they like DD's coffee doesn't like coffee, but likes 6 scoops of sugars in warm water and thinks it's DD's that they like. When forced to go there, I always ask for no sugar, because if you ask for 1 spoon, you get 4. I almost never put sugar in coffee, but DD's requires some. I also ask for a shot of espresso in their regular coffee (Turbo!) to make it more similar to actual coffee. This is a controversial stance to take in NJ, but bagel shop coffee almost all sucks, too. Very similar to DD in that it's weak ass coffee with too much milk and cream.

Re: Random Cartography
Around here the best coffee is almost always starbucks. I will support the local shops when im around them but if Im just looking for coffee while out starbucks is the most reliable.

4,300 places to buy that coffee - roughly one per 8,000 Canadians.

I don't know why, but this map drives home just how far east the northeast is. Maybe it's the lack of framing from Canada.

My wife is from Missouri. I guess I must have seen this map in my sleep. Because I also think of it as the puke state.

Re: Random Cartography
I guess it proves the point....but how is soup beans considered "weird"?

Never even heard of sauerkraut balls. 45 years as a Hoosier and nothing. Sounds delicious.

Re: Random Cartography
They’re quite popular in the Cleveland area, too. But I don’t remember them at all while growing up in Cincinnati, which is odd since Cincinnati is historically a German town.
One of the golf courses around here sells the walking taco. I’ve never been desperate enough to eat one.
THERE’S NOWT WRONG WITH GALA LUNCHEONS, LAD!
Re: Random Cartography
I’m sorry, but “biscuits with chocolate gravy” doesn’t sound weird. It sounds delicious.

I've never heard of the grape-nuts ice cream, btw. Will have to defer to Ryan.

There's one brand that I always see in the supermarket, but it's from Maine and I wouldn't have guessed it was regional/statetional beyond the fact that it's weird.

According to my Google search, sauerkraut balls are from Akron, OH. Never heard of most of these things, willing to try most, even if they sound a bit gross.Sabo wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 7:12 amThey’re quite popular in the Cleveland area, too. Oooo ... I've never heard of this but as a kid we'd put corn flakes on ice cream so that's kinda similar?Ryan wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 9:17 am There's one brand that I always see in the supermarket, but it's from Maine and I wouldn't have guessed it was regional/statetional beyond the fact that it's weird.

I was poor as a youngster living in MI. Definitely put food coloring and sugar on snow MANY times. It's actually pretty decent (just a snowcone or whatever you want to call shaved ice, really.)Johnny Carwash wrote: ↑Fri Jan 21, 2022 9:14 am I've never heard of the grape-nuts ice cream, btw.
