That was widely rumored amongst those on the inside. The Cubs getting Verlander and Cabrera for Rizzo was a bigger surprise.

Re: MLB 2017 - August
Whoa! Bellinger and Puig for Trout. Now that is bold.

Guess who just broke the trout trade news to a friend? This dumbass.
I hate you people.
I hate you people.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.
Re: MLB 2017 - August
I suppose Angels fans may not fully appreciate Bellinger's potential, plus the value involved. Still, Trout is Trout. This is like trading Mantle at his peak. Simply hard to grasp how it could be a good thing. Give your friend a few days.

Great news about Jeter coming back to play for the Marlins. The game needs him.

Totally true though I caught in pretty quickly.

Hey, a black guy robbed a Red Sox home run last night and the Fenway crowd gave him a standing ovation.

He was wearing a racist depiction on his hat, so the crowd probably figured, "He's one of the okay ones."

Re: MLB 2017 - August
Cashman worked some serious magic to land Sonny Gray earlier this week. Prospects were good going back to OAK, but two of them may never live up to what they could become due to injury. Me thinks this was a case of Beane's love of the next big thing, and Cash's recognition when to cut bait on 'up side'.

Re: MLB 2017 - August
How about some Phoenix relocation talk? That's something this forum has never discussed before, ever, right?
The Diamondbacks are embroiled in a lawsuit with Maricopa County over who is responsible for major repairs required at Chase Field. In court, a lawyer for the team threatened that MLB could step in and force the franchise to relocate if the situation got much worse.

Given the A's are still playing out of their literal sewage dump of a stadium, that's obviously an empty threat, but....

Re: MLB 2017 - August
Yeah, there doesn't seem to be too many markets making noises about really wanting an MLB team. (And to MLB's credit they haven't threatened any teams with the "threat" of certain markets like the NFL has for decades).
That said would be an interesting thought experiment to figure out most likely places for a team to go -- probably Charlotte, NC would be near top of the list. Montreal as well if they somehow got a stadium built.

Yeah, was a must-do considering the two injured guys are bigger flags than usual. Kaprielian rose post-draft because of his increase in velo and that maybe killed his elbow, Fowler is a guy who probably doesn't have the bat to be a legit starting corner so he needs to come all the way back from a serious injury. Really shocked they got away without giving up Florial as a Barreto-esque pickup by Beane.

Can't see Charlotte getting it. They opened their downtown minor-league stadium in 2014 with a capacity of 10,200 (and broke ground the day before I left after spending two months there for work).
Frankly, I can't see them moving. Just squabbling with vague, open-ended threats about moving to squeeze local government when something goes wrong combined with a billionaire who knows he didn't become a billionaire by paying for things when he didn't have to.

Probably couldn't move a west coast team that Far East either.

Dodgers are 44-7 in their last 51.
Can't wait to see them lose in the first round of the playoffs.

TIL Atlanta had the highest elevation of any ballpark in baseball before expansion to Denver. Kind of mind blowing to me.

Fulton County Stadium wasn't called The Launching Pad for nothing.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

Absolutely, but that wasn't the right example. Catching it weird doesn't mean it was an impossible ball for a major league CF to get to.
