Re: Random Videos
I am, but has anyone heard from Giff? The victim was just a couple towns over from me. I was going to post an article from the local online newspaper before they caught him because the comments were funny. The first person bitched that the video had "potty language and she played it in front of her kids, and they never should have put a video with potty language on their site. Then a bunch of people dumped on her with shit like, "yeah, a murderer is on the loose, but why she we show a video that could bring him to justice or save other lives because your kid might here a bad word." The best was a guy who railed on her for her "bad fucking parenting for showing a video of a murderer to her children." That cracked me up.AB_skin_test wrote:Is syb ok?

Yeah, but there is something about the chick to notice, especially around the 1:55 mark.

Digging that up at 2:30AM, huh? Did you not quite make it three months?

They never really did it for me either. But that introduction actually made me want to give them another shot. I fired up 2112 on Spotify this morning. Not bad. Certainly better than most Rush I've heard over the years on the radio.Jerloma wrote:I just don't see it with that band.

thanks Shirley [incidentally, a phrase i've never uttered before].
yeah well i'm not the type to try to sell someone on art - hell i never liked the Doors (just pouring on the dead here, don't mind me) - but i would say with Rush it's never a quick love. If you ever really wanted to give them a chance, pick ~3 albums from different decades to get a wide range.
And their sound just keeps changing which I personally love but actually has changed the dynamic of their fanbase at least 2 or 3 times over 30+ years. I legitimately really like or love every one of their periods...
...although Roll the Bones (1991) was terrible. :D

Has a band ever been so mocked at a R&RHOF induction? And then joined the parody of themselves?
Max, J, stop reading this post. Click on something else, anything,
CanCon determines that if you grow up in Canada you will have Canadian publications rammed down your throat. That's how Rush became a big thing. In Canada. When I was 11-years old (stress 11-years old) I saw Rush at Ivor Wynne Stadium in Hamilton. The A Farewell To Kings tour. I started playing guitar when I was 8-years old but it was nothing brilliant just duh duh duh stuff although I learned the fundamental chord and scale structures at the time. Anyway, it was a great concert. But so was April Wine, BTO and Streetheart. It was enough awareness to identify that Aleksandar Zivojinovic was just loud nothing. Power chord diddly diddly power chord diddly diddly.
What I like about Rush is that they don't take themselves seriously. Well, Peart does. Far too much. Far, far, far too much. Geddy and Alex are perfectly aware that they suck. Lifeson noodles A-Minor pentatonic scales diddly diddly diddly as his signature (that's not indefensible, play any given electric Neil Young tune) and Geddy Lee sounds like a goat being fucked by another goat.
I had every one of those damn albums on vinyl. Up until Moving Pictures.
If you want to see an image that you'll never be able to burn off of your brain, look at the backside of the first Rush album.
The lyrics are flat-out idiotic, Peart's dumbing down of Ayn Rand and Lord of the Rings (as if it is possible to dumb that down any more than it is) set to pretentious blasts of simple chords. The parody band nailed it. Chord! Pause! Chord! Pause! Yep.
But Canada sucks in general. The Canadian Grammy awards are called the Juno Awards. This year, a year in which Rush was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, they lost to some shit act called "Marianas Trench" in the Juno Group of the Year category. Inducted into the R&RHOF is apparently not enough of a decent year.
Ever read that story about how baby sharks eat their siblings while still in the womb? That's Canada.
Geddy knows all too well that they are not serious musicians and you can see from the grin on his face that he knows damn well they got lucky. Yet I still get a kick out of seeing him in front-row box seats at Jays games. By their own admission, they were huge Expos fans. They even thanked Warren Cromartie on one of their albums. Signals maybe?
Yeah, anyway, they're fucking terrible.

While they're fucking terrible, they're my fucking terrible. I think it's less about the tunes and more about bringing me to a time when I was more care-free and had less responsibility. It helped me bond with questionable characters in high school. 30 years ago. It almost felt like I fit in.
But yes, almost everything after 83 sucks.

EDIT: I was just saying, Marianas Trench is legit. It's not my style, but they aren't just some shit band. And she always makes fun of Canada for having forced 20 Barenaked Ladies songs a day on them back in the day.

Marianas Trench seems like an awfully lazy band name choice. Doesn't seem like my kinda music either. Pop/punk/emo according to Google. But to each, his own. I listen to dubstep and trap. Who am I to talk shit?
