Re: Nature is Horrifying
Well it's getting below freezing here (we had snow yesterday) so my hope is that I've blocked their way to the outside and their food? So they'll die off from starvation or weather? If it were April I'd definitely call the ex-terminator but it's October. It's slowing down, I only killed 8 yesterday.
By the way, Wasp Dust is illegal in Canada. I tried to order some from the States and they won't deliver here.

Kung Fu movies are like porn. There's 1 on 1, then 2 on 1, then a group scene..

I found the hole they were flying out of and sprayed wasp-repelent into it and plugged the hole 10 days ago with peppermint-laced cotton balls. So now they can't fly out to get food.
Problem now of course it that they now fly one by one into the house, through vents and light fixtures. So it's an ongoing war. Any solutions?

Get it taken care of or there'll be a nest in your house. Attic or wherever.degenerasian wrote: ↑Wed Oct 13, 2021 12:10 pm Well it's getting below freezing here (we had snow yesterday) so my hope is that I've blocked their way to the outside and their food? That's from a movie called Brothers of the Wind that has some really incredible footage.

I can't believe that eagle held on that long. Tumbling like that has to be very dangerous for them. BTW, I do remember seeing years ago that golden eagles (I think that's what that is) will pick up relatively large goats for just a bit so they can drop them down the sides of mountains. Pretty metal.
Totally Kafkaesque

About ten minutes ago we heard a strange boom and this from what we thought was somewhere in our neighborhood. Now people all over Northern Utah are reporting that they heard/felt it too.
Could a meteorite do that?

A google search of prior Northern Utah booms seems to point to military training.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Sat Aug 13, 2022 9:44 am About ten minutes ago we heard a strange boom and this from what we thought was somewhere in our neighborhood. I have a friend who was doing a double handed race here in the Puget Sound who hit a whale while going pretty fast under a spinnaker. Launched him into the companionway and fucked him up pretty bad (couple of broken ribs, separated shoulder) and knocked the keel on his Farr30 loose.
Re: Nature is Horrifying
so a Farr30 is like $60K used. What does a keel repair like that cost? Insurance cover something like that or is that out of pocket repair/maintenance?DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 12:30 pmWas just coming here to post that.wlu_lax6 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 12:20 pm Moby Dick'd

Re: Nature is Horrifying
I would guess it was in the $10K neighborhood for the repair job...resetting the keel, repainting the bottom, etc. Insurance will generally cover stuff like that.wlu_lax6 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 12:38 pmso a Farr30 is like $60K used. I have a friend who was minding his own business in the Puget Sound who got hit by some assholes under a spinnaker. Pushed him under the surface while he was inhaling and fucked him up pretty bad (couple of broken vertabrae, separated fin). At least he knocked the keel on their Farr30 loose.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

Finally read some version of the actual story. As if I wasn't already pro-whale:
"The second pizza had just come out of the oven, and I was dipping a slice into some ranch dressing," Rodriguez said. "The back half of the boat lifted violently upward and to starboard."

I will definitely drizzle shitty chain pizza with ranch. I'd probably dunk sailboat pizza in it.rass wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 6:31 am Finally read some version of the actual story. As if I wasn't already pro-whale:

Neighborhood FB group (and Nextdoor apparently, but I'm not on there) reports 3 separate panther sightings in our neighborhood recently. I highly doubt it's more than a chonky bobcat, but I kind of wish I had security cameras now.
