I bet these go hand in hand. I'm also black coffee and dark choc over milk.
Re: Culinary Hot Takes
Deep fried turkey is the only way to prepare turkey at Thanksgiving.
Green bean casserole is the poorest excuse of a Thanksgiving side I've ever seen. It deserves it's place next to the cranberry mold as a decoration.
I grew up with swordfish as a commonplace, near weekly dinner and I'm eternally grateful for that. It's the best.
The best addition to roasting veggies is bacon. Brussel sprouts, broccoli, anything.
Korean BBQ is not only one of the best dinners ever, it's one of the best dinner experiences ever. I mean the traditional shoes off, sitting on the floor, cooking your own food, and drinking soju way. Gunbae!

Wasn't there a Condiment War II in 2016 as well?
I'll go the other way on pancakes vs. waffles. Waffles are incredibly overrated...they are just a too thick and too hard version of pancakes. There is nothing better than making pancakes on a weekend morning. However, buttermilk pancakes are crap.
I believe I've said these before:
Mrs. Buttersworth is 10x better than real maple syrup
Onions and pickles are a scourge across the planet and must be eliminated.
I would like expensive whiskey.

Have you ever tried sauteeing onions? They make so many things so much better from burgers to stir fries. Sweet pickles do suck, but a crunchy new dill? And I think we've been through this before, but preferring processed syrup-ish stuff to the real thing is like craving a Bud Light Lime in a bar full of good craft beers. It is inconceivable to me.

I have tried sauteed onions...just doesn't do anything for me. IMO, onions and pickles just overpower everything else.
Whats odd about the maple syrup is that I like "real" or craft anything else...cheese, beer, breads, etc. I just think it offers a bad flavor.
I would like expensive whiskey.

Re: Culinary Hot Takes
In fairness, I think the insistence on real maple syrup is a strongly regional thing. I didn't grasp the superiority of the real stuff until I moved to New England. My observations are that 1) People from outside the Northeast US and Canada don't care about real vs. fake and 2) No one from outside North America likes maple flavored anything.
Here is my philistine food take I'll cop to: Cool Whip is better than real dairy whipped cream.

Re: Culinary Hot Takes
I've never lived in New England. I grew up on Log Cabin shit. It was all I knew. Then, my midwest farmer's daughter of a wife married me and made me waffles one morning and said something like, "No fucking way are we using anything except real maple syrup". My eyes were opened to the truth! Never had the fake crap since then.
Also, milk chocolate > dark chocolate > white chocolate > no chocolate.
I love onions. Raw, or grilled, or sautéed.
Pickles are a scourge on the earth and should be eliminated.
Yes to Korean barbecue.
Brussel sprouts/broccoli/cauliflower (white broccoli) all smell like bum when cooked.

Grade B syrup is where it's at. Grade A is crap and is only made to sell to the idiot tourists.
That said, it's a very delicate line between perfect amount of syrup and a sugar overload headache.
I like roasted brussel sprouts. Sprinkled with a bit of olive oil and S&P. Yum. Also Surly Brewing in Minny has some sprouts served with fish sauce that are amazeballs.
I like dark chocolate, but take a splash of cream in my coffee.
Not a mayo guy, but it's a must on a BLT otherwise, meh...
Ketchup is for kids, though it's 1000x better with hot paprika added
though I do love thousand island dressing on fries.
Berries rule. Blackberries rule all. Watermelon sucks.

Buy whole melons piled in the bed of pickup trucks. Guess that goes for anything agricultural. Plums are better than peaches. Mangoes better than plums. Fruits truly are nectar. Liquor plus fresh fruit muddle is nectar of the gods and you'll save enough on cheap liquor to buy the fruit.
Re: Culinary Hot Takes
Cheese is overused in America period. It should never be used with barbecue, sparingly with Mexican and only for specific dishes for Italian.

cheese is great on everything...white american or swiss with turkey and bacon on whole wheat with ranch dressingis my favorite sandwich.
ive never had real maple syrup, but generic syrup tastes good so i dont think im missing much. cheesw belongs on mexican food, that crumbly white cheese they put on taco truck tacos, hell chile con queso is the best dip in the world.
People whp put mayo on anything sicken me. pickles are delicious. onions are only edible when deep fried. mussells and oysters arent fit for human consumption
wings are the best part of the chicken. honey bbq wings are the greatest ofmcommon wing flavors
funyions are the finest chip option
cool ranch dorito taco shells were an amazinh invention especially if you just cook your own actual taco meat
salmon is a funny word

Agree with mister d about bacon. You should've seen the looks I got when I ordered a Torchy's taco of the month without bacon.

We had some extra bacon this morning and I put it on my bagel with cream cheese. That was fantastic, though I should have added some tomato or green onion.

Appears I had this open for a while ... the "get it on the side" is what I've learned is a lot easier than asking for no bacon.

I'd appreciate you getting it on the side, allows me to easily add it to whatever I'm eating.

Re: Culinary Hot Takes
If you don't like sauteed or caramelized onions because they are overpowering, someone can't cook. I would rather have caramelized onions than 99% of candy.
Good Japanese ramen is better than good mexican, italian, chinese, vietnamese (let's be real the comparison is pho, and pho is amateur league comepared to ramen).
Properly cooked vegetables are better than meat.
The only BBQ worth eating is the top 5%. The rest is trash meat cooked badly.
Good chocolate, milk or dark, should only be had in tiny amounts. the rest is wasted on your stomach instead of taste buds.
Baked Alaskas are better than any cake. Pie is better than cake. Eating more than a tiny sliver of cheesecake is for trash monsters.
American spaghetti sauce, pretty much across the board, is too sweet and trash.
shitty chocolate/vanilla ice cream bars are better than any other popsicle.
A good dill pickle is the goddamn truth and I will die on this hill over all of the others.
