Giff and I got a nice surprise. FOund out that Robert Earl Keen has replaced Tanya Tucker in the lineup this weekend. Nothing against Tanya, but I'll take REK anyday.

That was a nice surprise! Karma for passing up a free ticket in Denver last month due to COVID concerns.

Cool! I heard he got a new lead guitarist. Gonna be tough to be as good as Rich Brotherton.

I love when an artist on my “hmmm … they might be bad live” list is confirmed good. In general, she seems pretty awesome.

Yeah no doubt. She made a comment about her wondering if they’d fit in at that festival and the crowd proved she did. They fucking rocked. I get to see at least four of my favorite bands/artists today and I’ll be surprised if anything tops that.

Also, Midland isn’t most of y’all’s cups of tea, but they put on a great show as well. I can’t imagine how easy it is for their lead singer to score. Margo Price was honestly a ton better than I thought she was going to be, even though there’s something about her personality that rubs me the wrong way. Joy Oladokun was really good too. Left about halfway through My Morning Jacket. We were hot, tired, and the warm beer I finished the night with didn’t want to stay in my stomach. Props to AB and his wife for not judging.

Sounds like a great event!

btw- I saw Margo Price a couple years ago, and she was outstanding then, too.

Pretty great to see an artist in her hometown. Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker were fantastic, although I'm more than a little bummed they didn't play any boygenius tracks.

Dacus was amazing again on night two. Baker was as well, but if we're choosing our fighters, I'm team Lucy. My wife is team Julien.

Jason Isabell and the 400 unit last night. Beautiful night and good music. Played Driver 8 (REM) from the new album that they are releasing next month. All Georgia artists as a charity album/gift for their election results. Waxahatchee opened.

Eric Church tonight at Rupp Arena. No mandates or requirements. A little leery but I'll take my mask and honestly we probably won't make it through the whole show. Friend bought tickets a few months back and feel bad backing out on it. They are like us in that they have been pretty cautious. our whole group is vaccinated of course, but still considering leaving well before show ends.

I have a ticket to see Bob Mould in a couple of weeks, indoor at a small club. They are going to be checking vax cards, and have a mask rule, but I'm still feeling unsure about going.

Fine. Sounded good but all of the sons sounded the same. Nice voice, not much of a stage presence

Disappointing. I wonder if she plays more old stuff when she's headlining.

Went to my first indoor show last night to see Bob Mould. All masked, vax cards checked at the door.

And right as the opening band ended, one of the water mains broke and flooded out the hallway to the bathrooms, and started out onto the main floor.

So the fire department was called, water shut off, and cleanup started. I went to the bar across the street and caught the end of the M's game.

About an hour later, they started letting people back in, and he started playing at about 10:45. Not much interaction with the crowd, just slamming through songs. Fantastic show, but I'm dragging today.

Yeah, when I saw him December 2019 (last indoors show before the pandemic) it was pretty much straight forward songs with a little bit of political commentary.

He made a comment in between songs at one point that he "usually waxes philosophically" on stage, but that 'tonight is all fun'.

This seems like a much higher quality of shows than we usually get on this side of the Hudson:

My number is about the same but (1) its indoors and (2) weirdly inconvenient by public transportation from here.

I spent two nights at Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker in RVA indoors, one night in Asheville at the Mountain Goats (one of my eight listed here) and have been to two Lightning games (where they only scored one goal in my presence!)(we left at 3-0 opening night to get wings). I'm fine keeping my mask on, and feel comfortable even in indoor situations these days. YMMV though.

Ever gone to a show and looked around at the crowd and thought "Yep, these guys must've gotten an NPR write up."? (It was The HU, and yes, they got at least two.)
