Re: The Weather
My daughter fell in the backyard on Sunday, I ran out to help here and the steps separated from the side of the deck. I am in pain.

Re: The Weather
And, massive snowfall is hitting the Sierras. As much as 10 feet in some places.

Re: The Weather
While the Sierras are getting several feet of snow, apparently this could be the first year in recorded weather history (since late 1800s) with no measurable snow all year in the Triangle. Not even a trace amount.
Totally Kafkaesque

Re: The Weather
I’m getting really nervous with this forecast calling for 2-3 inches of rain tomorrow. Last time we got 3 inches, I had 400+ gallons seep into my guest room, took 6 people fighting it for 5 hours, then me for another few hours to keep up.
Got a portable sump pump set up and some sandbags, hoping it’s enough. We got over an inch a few weeks ago, and the water was bordering on flooding, but I was able to wet vac the pooling areas outside. Planning on an afternoon of vacuuming the patio in a deluge. Have water remediation scheduled for mid April, was really hoping we wouldn’t have a problem before then. Have to rip up the driveway, install drains and run pipes under the driveway. About the same price as sending a kid to college for a year.

Re: The Weather
On the plus side, it’s supposed to stop by 7:00pm. Every time we’ve had issues, it rained until 3 or 4 am, so at least I won’t be up late dealing with this shit. Starting around 3 or 4 tonight, I should be ok through the morning.

Good luck, Syb. Fingers crossed.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Re: The Weather
So far my sandbag channel is working! I have a nice creek running across my patio and down the driveway angled away from the house. Rain has been consistently around .15 inches/hour since 3:00 am, and nothing in my sump pump hole at all, and nothing near the sliding door that is stupidly flush with the ground. 1:00 is the test. Weather Channel app was saying .45 inches/hour for 2 hours, but that is now down to .3 inches, so I'm cautiously optimistic. I hate that I have to look at the hourly rainfall and have a very strong sense what it all means. Woke up every hour or so all night and kept checking. Total forecast reduced to 1-2 inches, but I don't know if they remove what fell before.

Re: The Weather
Holy shit we are having a line of storms. Much worse than I thought from my office's location.

Re: The Weather
We're supposed to get some storms later today to go on top of the 1.5+ inches of rain that have fallen the last two days, which fell on already very soggy ground. At this rate, I won't be able to cut my grass for another month.A_B wrote: ↑Tue Apr 02, 2024 11:55 am Holy shit we are having a line of storms. Much worse than I thought from my office's location.

Power cut until tomorrow afternoon because wind. Got a little jet boil fuel to cook with and also may throw a burrito in my fireplace. It’ll be the boredom that gets me.

I hope Giff is OK, but I see this and think...man there's some selfish fucking people who decided to stop traffic like that to make sure their car is fine, but FUCK everyone else.

Yeah, I would be pretty livid being behind those folks. GTF out of the way.

Re: The Weather
With the winds the way they were yesterday, I don't think many of those behind them would have wanted to drive at that time. I mean, look at the highway in front of them.
When I saw it coming in from my office, I ran out to get food before it hit. It started when I was a stoplight away from the office and it was pretty terrifying. There's one video thought from the DFW area where you can barely even see the hail in the video and it didn't even appear to be raining all that hard. But I think there's truly some weather PTSD from all the freak storms all over the place and people being without power for days and weeks at a time.

Re: The Weather
Oh I wouldn't want to be out in it at all. Just cannot fathom blocking traffic like that. How'd you like to be the car that is the first one in each lane that can't get under, as well? Everyone's dealing with the same weather, you ain't special and neither is your cybertruck. Though hail is probably terminal for a cybertruck.Giff wrote: ↑Wed May 29, 2024 9:56 am With the winds the way they were yesterday, I don't think many of those behind them would have wanted to drive at that time. Re: The Weather
Seems very telling. Like odds are there's someone in that backup who is close enough to wherever they're trying to get safely but can't because someone doesn't want their fashion pickup truck not dented.
